Examples of Duties
This position is responsible for the direct supervision of the Work First Employment Services unit located in the Adult Services section. Work First Employment Services is a federally mandated program designed to enable recipients of Work First Family Assistance (WFFA)) to become self-sufficient. The social workers in this unit help WFFA recipients with a variety of employment related services such as Human Resource Development (HRD) training/education, work-related expenses, case management, on-the-job training, skills training, counseling, and job search.
The worker in this position must:
• Have a thorough knowledge of Federal, State, and County policies and procedures governing Work First Employment Services
• Be familiar with community and agency resources available
• Be able to plan and monitor the unit’s work
• Organize and direct the unit in developing, recommending, and implementing new plans in response to program changes
• Ensure acceptable quantity and quality standards are met by workers
• Assist with budget preparations
• Be aware of any new or ongoing training needs of the unit
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work and two years of social work or counseling experience; OR a bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of social work and three years of social work or counseling experience; OR a master’s degree in a counseling field and three years of social work or counseling experience; OR a four-year degree in a human services field or related curriculum including at least 15 semester hours in courses related to social work or counseling and four years of social work or counseling experience; OR graduation from a four-year college or university and five years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling, or a related human services field providing experience in the techniques of casework, group work, or community organization; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of methods and principles of casework supervision and training. Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their application to specific casework and community problems. Considerable knowledge of behavioral and socioeconomic problems and their treatment and governmental and private organizations and community resources. Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations and policies which govern social work programs. Ability to supervise, train, or orient lower-level social workers, students, interns, or other staff. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively.
