Examples of Duties
These positions are located in the General Services Unit in Adult Services. These position’s duties focus primarily on Crisis Intake. Duties will include; providing initial intake and screening for individuals who walk into the agency requesting assistance, due to an emergency situation that has placed their household in crisis. The position occasionally provides back-up coverage of general intake for Adult Protective Services. This position requires the Social Worker to have a thorough working knowledge of community resources and agency programs that provide services to the indigent, disabled, and aged. Crisis intake is provided for an average of 8-15 individuals daily. Documentation of all service activities is completed on a weekly basis. The Social Worker is responsible for general and case management duties which include documentation of need/eligibility for services, coordinating services, correspondence, and reports. The Social Worker will also attend meetings, conferences, and staffing.
As part of the crisis intervention case management process, this position may interact with family members, resources agencies, vendors, and significant others to maximize the use of appropriate support systems to find the most appropriate alternative that will meet the client’s needs.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution; bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of directly related experience; bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Directly Related Experience is defined as Human Services experience in the areas of case management, assessment and referral, supportive counseling, intervention, psycho-social therapy and treatment planning.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices and their application to individual casework group work and community problems. Knowledge of the psychosocial, socioeconomic and behavioral problems and their treatment. Knowledge of governmental and private organizations and community resources. Knowledge of laws, regulations and policies which govern the program. General knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes and their treatment is required in certain programs or settings. Skill in establishing rapport with a client and applying techniques of assessing psychosocial. behavioral, and psychological aspects of client’s problem. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrative superior members of case load and their families, and with civics medical, social and religious organizations. Ability to train or instruct lower-level social workers, students, or interns. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work. Knowledge of casework, community services, and service programs. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential to the position.

The employee in this position will be operating motor vehicles for Cumberland County and shall have a valid North Carolina Drivers License.

Duties of this position require the use of the employees personal vehicle.
This position will require assisting in emergency and/or disaster situations.
