Job Description
This Social Worker III position in the adult services unit is responsible for receiving and evaluating reports of alleged abuse, neglect, or exploitation of disabled adults. The worker serves as an Adult Home Specialist responsible for monitoring and licensing of adult home care facilities in the county. The position provides case management services to in-home aide clients and placement services to adults who cannot remain in their own homes. The worker provides guardianship services to adults for whom DSS is the legal guardian. The worker provides payee services. Referrals are made to other units in the agency or various community resources. This worker serves as a backup for emergency intake services during office hours. The social worker serves on-call on a rotation basis with other staff to receive reports involving allegations of abuse or neglect of adults after hours and on weekends. The worker has regular contact with medical providers, law enforcement, and other community agencies that serve adults.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices and their application to individual casework group work and community problems.
  • Knowledge of the psychosocial, socioeconomic and behavioral problems and their treatment.
  • Knowledge of governmental and private organizations and community resources.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations and policies which govern the program.
  • General knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes and their treatment is required In certain programs or settings.
  • Skill in establishing rapport with a client and applying techniques of assessing psychosocial. behavioral, and psychological aspects of client’s problem.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrative superiors members of case load and their families, and with civics medical, social and religious organizations.
  • Ability to express Ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work.
  • Working knowledge of community resources and demonstrate a variety of assessment, problem-solving and crisis counseling skills
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with clients, personnel of other departments, professionals and members of the public through contact and cooperation.
  • Ability to offer assistance to co-workers and employees of other departments as required.
  • Ability to take the initiative to complete the duties of the position without the need of direct supervision.
  • Ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job.
  • Ability to assemble and analyze information and make written reports and records in a concise, clear and effective manner.
  • Ability to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of and skill in the use of computers for word and data processing and records management.
  • Thorough knowledge of proper English usage, vocabulary, spelling and basic mathematics.

Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work and one year of social work or counseling experience; Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative (Child Welfare positions only); Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year directly related experience; Master’s degree in counseling in a human services field and one year of social work or counseling; Bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years directly related experience; Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience.

Stanly County DSS Work Against Information:
Social Worker Trainee Salary: $36,855 after one year of experience, Social Worker I
Social Worker I Salary: $38,812, after two years of experience, Social Worker II
Social Worker II Salary: $46,460, after three years of experience, Social Worker III
Social Worker III Salary: $50,832, Pay does not reflect any additional COLA’s or merit that may be given.
