This position is integral to the service delivery system, which serves abused, neglected, dependent and delinquent children whose temporary custody has been awarded to the County.
Examples of Duties
Worker has the responsibility of receiving, assessing/evaluating and providing needed services to children and their families when the child is in the county’s legal custody. The position has a preventive aspect geared towards prevention of abusive or neglectful situations where children are in the county’s custody, but remain in the home of their parent(s). Placement services are utilized when a family unit can no longer provide adequate care/protection for child(ren) in their home. Worker is responsible for identifying an appropriate placement for each child, supervising that placement while providing goal-oriented services to the child, the child’s family and foster care providers. A variety of treatment modalities are used to modify or remedy problematic family situations that place children at risk of out of home placements. Case activity is focused on improving the quality of childcare, preventing or remedying family problems, while preserving, rehabilitating, and reuniting families. It is an extremely demanding position, which requires sensitivity, good judgment, good writing skills, initiative, and dedication. Worker will make court appearances and work with the legal system on a regular basis. Other related duties and responsibilities within the foster care unit may be required.

Physical Requirements
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
Minimum Qualifications
Masters Degree in Social Work (MSW); or Bachelors Degree in Social Work (BSW) with Child Welfare Collaborative or BSW and one year of directly related experience; or a 4-year degree in a human service field and two years directly related experience; or 4-year degree and three years of directly related experience. (All MSW and BSW degrees must be from an accredited School of Social Work.)

Note: In accordance with State mandates and the Rockingham County Emergency Operations Plan, Rockingham County Health and Human Services staff from the Divisions of Social Services, Public Health and Integrated Health are required to staff emergency shelters during times of disaster. Please be advised that every staff person is eligible to be assigned to an emergency shelter or Emergency Operations Center.

Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
For Full Time employees in a regular position, insurance is available and effective the first day of the following month after having worked for an entire month. The County currently pays 100% of the cost for regular employees working at least 30 hours per week. Dependent coverage is also available.

Local Government Retirement System
All employees in regular full or part time position are required to contribute to the retirement system. Contributions are taken on a pre-tax basis. The current contribution amount is 6%.

NC 401(k)- Employees have the option of making contributions on a pre or post tax basis to a 401(k) and on a pre tax basis to a a 457(b) plan.
