This is a year-long appointment, beginning September 2023 through June 2024, and follows the trimester academic calendar of Bloomington College and Career Academy (BCCA). Courses taught are HTC Sociology courses, and are taught on-location at the BCCA campus, as well as online. On-campus courses will be taught various days and times, Monday-Friday, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

This appointment is expected to be at a 87.5% teaching load with a total of 28 credits throughout the academic year.

Hennepin Technical College seeks a full-time Sociology Instructor to be part of our law enforcement pathway and partnership with Bloomington College and Career Academy (BCCA), and to teach college-level Sociology courses, with a focus on Criminal Justice. The college courses taught will be Introduction to Criminal Justice, Juvenile Justice, and Race in America, with an opportunity to teach other Sociology courses as the need arises. Courses will be taught on-location at the BCCA campus in Bloomington, as well as online. Job Description

Examples of Duties:

  • Teach transfer-level Sociology courses as part of our law enforcement pathway partnership at the Bloomington College and Career Academy.
  • Courses include, but may not be limited to, Introduction to Criminal Justice, Juvenile Justice, and Race in America
  • Continuous curriculum development, including the design, revisions, and implementation of instructional materials and assessment of learner outcomes
  • Integration of assessment activities into teaching practices and participation in department and college-wide assessment of student learning
  • Support of the success and development of students through the use of a variety of instructional methods, available office hours, and by providing additional resources
  • Development and implementation of on-campus and online courses
  • Contribution into department decisions on budget, scheduling, textbook selection etc.
  • Participation, as needed, in discipline, team, campus, and college matters through service on committees, on a pro-rated basis; attendance at regular meetings; and continued professional development, on a pro-rated basis
  • Support and advance the department and college mission through ideas and projects

Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (expected to have to enter job):

Educational Requirement
Master’s degree with a major in Sociology or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credits (27 graduate quarter credits) in Sociology.

Demonstrated ability to teach and work with persons from minoritized, historically marginalized, and/or culturally diverse groups.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching Criminal Justice courses at the college level.
