Job Summary:
This Strike Team analytics position will develop analytical evaluations or solutions for BNSF initiatives. The candidate will be responsible for data exploration, discovery, and presentation of gathered insight from data. Experienced candidate needs proven ability to work independently on large projects. Candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with several stakeholders across multiple organizations. Must be very organized and detailed in development and product ownership efforts.
About Strike Team:
The Strike Team’s charter is to quickly turn around analytics projects to evaluate or solution BNSF’s opportunities. We work quickly on large impact projects that can drive important business decisions.
Duties include:
- Interfacing with internal customers to understand the business and identify opportunities for improvement using advanced analytics
- Partner with multiple teams to facilitate the development and the implementation of Mathematical Optimization and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning models that provide intelligent solutions for business problems
- Evaluate model development methodology and advise on industry best practices.
- Consult with Stakeholders to identify business opportunities that can be realized through Advanced Modeling applications
- Extracting and cleaning large volumes of data to derive insights that can be used for process improvements
- Identifying solution techniques and implementing them independently, with external vendors, through academic alliances, or with BNSF Technology Services teams
- Participate in project roadmap development and ensure solutions meet business expectations/needs
- Communicating status and findings to senior management and multiple teams
- Keeping current with research and techniques in the field of analytics

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Transportation, Data Science, Industrial Engineering, or related Field
- 2+ years’ advanced analytics/data analytics
- Knowledge of developing/supporting Mathematical Optimization, Machine Learning and/or advanced analytics functions
- Proficient with a variety of programming languages such as Python, Java, and SQL
- Understanding of business objectives and purpose of projects assigned
- Applies professional and educational knowledge to projects
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree or PHD in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or a related field. Ph.D. is a plus
- Experience in railroad operations
- Project management experience
- Experience with cloud-based data storage and data processing platforms, i.e. Azure Databricks
- Experience with commercial solver software, such as CPLEX, Gurobi, or Anylogic
- Ability to search through very large and complex data sets for usable information
- Ability to identify underlying problems and appropriate techniques for solving them
