Summary:
This position will be responsible for supporting the role of the local agency representative (LEA) by monitoring the implementation of IEP protocols and ensuring the delivery of supports and related services as identified in the IEP. This includes attending IEP meetings, alone or in conjunction with the Supervisor of Special Education and/or IEP Coordinator, guiding teachers and facilitating IEP team discussions concerning development of appropriate programs for students via the IEP process and supplementary aids and services, including resources needed for implementation of appropriate student programming, following up to ensure programming is appropriately implemented, and assisting in training of new special education staff.
Essential Duties:
- Serves as PRIMARY LEA at IEP meetings
- Approves related services for students
- Communicates with contracted related services providers/companies when issues arise
- Collaborates with special education teachers regarding IEP meetings and related services
- Approves teachers ESY checklists
- Assists in the implementation of the ESY program
- Assists in creating and maintaining department policies/procedures
- Assists in training new staff
- Attends outside professional development trainings in order to provide turnaround department trainings
- Assists in creating and delivering professional development/training to special education staff
- Conducts end-of-the-year checkout
- Participates in interviews for new department staff
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelors in Education
- An Instructional I or II Educational Certification / PA Special Education Certification
- Three years teaching experience
- Three years online teaching experience – Preferred
- Masters in Education, Leadership or Supervision Preferred
- Previous supervisory experience – Preferred
- Strong knowledge of Special Education Laws and Regulations
- Ability to collaborate with teachers, parents, administrators and outside organizations, to promote student success
- Ability to multitask manage time effectively
- Comprehensive understanding of best practices in teaching and learning with a focus on students with special learning needs
- Comprehensive knowledge of standards, assessments and how to connect standards and assessments with adaptive instructional delivery
- In-depth knowledge of current Special Education trends and issues
- Familiar with adaptive technology solutions and the knowledge to identify tools that meet specific needs
- Comprehensive understanding of research and theory behind best practices for teaching students with disabilities
- Strong written and oral communication skills using both formal and informal styles as appropriate for audience and purpose
- Proficient technology skills: Microsoft Office, email, Google Drive, web-based data programs
- Not required, but a plus: Canvas, EdInsight, IEPWriter, or other educational technology resources
