Special Events Coordinator (Seasonal)

The Village of Orland Park’s Recreation Department is currently seeking a highly organized and outgoing individual to fill the Part-time Special Events Coordinator (Seasonal) position. This dynamic individual will be responsible for assisting in the planning and supervision of a variety of recreation special events and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

This position will assist in planning and oversight of all facets on assigned special events. This hands-on role includes assisting with event set-up, providing support during or running an event and assisting in the closure of the the event. In addition, this role is responsible for researching and coordinating event entertainment, initiating booking contracts, maintaining booking files, coordinating promotional materials such as banners, postcards or print ads, scheduling and coordinating event location set-up and handling the research, proposal, purchase, pick-up and deliver of special event supplies. In addition, this position will assist in recruiting and coordinating event volunteers as well as become Basset certified to assist with serving alcoholic beverages at Village and Department Special Events, as needed. Furthermore, the Special Events Coordinator (Seasonal) will participate in and support Village and department functions and initiatives including day camp, aquatic operations, and Sportsplex operations.

This position will also provide administrative support to the Special Events Manager and department staff including, but not limited to, preparing event plans, recaps, budgets and coordinating local event solicitations/sponsorships. This consist of regularly cold calling local businesses for sponsorships/prize donations and soliciting local businesses for event promotional locations. The use of social media resources will be used to effectively promote events.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

This position is scheduled for 40 hours per week. Availability to work special events including evenings, weekends and some holidays including the weekly Market at the Park, the July 3rd Liberty Run, 4th of July Concert and Fireworks, the Taste of Orland Park (August 4, 5, 6, 2023) and the Centennial Park West Concert Series are essential.

A high schol degree is preferred. Progress towards Associate’s or Bacherlor’s degree in recreation, marketing or related field is also preferred.

Must be at least 21 years of age in order to become Basset Certified.

Compensation & Benefits

$13.00 per hour.
