POSITION SUMMARY
Coordinates and assists in the planning and implementation of a variety of Citywide special events and community-based programs for the Pittsburgh community, by fostering public/private partnerships and fund development.
Department: Parks & Recreation
Salary: $50,005 per year.
Union: This position is included in the Recreation Teacher’s Union, Service Employees International Union, Local #668, meet and discuss unit and will be filled in accordance with the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding.

Qualifying Requirements: Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.
WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show one (1) year of full-time experience which includes each of the following: designing, implementing and coordinating special events programs. (Full-time is defined as 32 hours or more per week. Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)
EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Marketing, Sport Administration, Hospitality/Tourism, Communications or a related field. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training.)
EQUIVALENCY: Education/training and/or work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above). The Total Qualifying Requirement is five (5) years. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training.)
CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATIONS

POSITION DUTIES
- Plans, coordinates, administers, implements and evaluates a variety of approved special programs and events for community based special events (e.g., Farmers Markets, Riverview 5K, Reservoir of Jazz etc.).
- Researches and identifies new events and programs and makes recommendations for implementation.
- Coordinates efforts and serves as a liaison between the private sector, other City departments and/or agencies, state and federal agencies, community groups and/or individuals regarding services and programs.
- Develops, recommends and implements operating budget for existing and proposed programs as assigned; monitors program revenues and expenditures as assigned.
- Identifies program needs; plans and prepares work orders and coordinates logistical support requirements for assigned special events/programs or sports/fitness programs.
- Researches and evaluates assigned programs to make necessary adjustments regarding program structure and cost effectiveness; reports findings to immediate supervisor.
- Coordinates and produces printed promotional information, educational materials, press releases, public service announcements and advertisements for distribution to the public and the media.
- Ensures that programs adhere to guidelines and contracts and makes on-site inspections as requested or required.
- Assists in securing financial assistance for programs through grants, sponsorships, etc; maintains documentation regarding assigned fundraising efforts.
- Transports equipment for special events and lifts heavy boxes as requested or required.
- Develops and administers contracts, leases and other documents (e.g., RFP’s, bids for services, supplies and equipment orders, etc.) related to assigned programs.
- May manage comprehensive computer data bases and related spreadsheets and software.
- Develops, recommends and implements approved long-range marketing strategies for assigned programs.
- Attends approved training programs, staff meetings, etc. as requested.
- Administers cardiopulmonary resuscitation to victims in distress as needed.
- Works weekends, evenings and holidays as needed or assigned.
- Performs other duties as requested or required.
