Special Projects Coordinator – Art Initiatives

The City of Falls Church seeks a creative and collaborative individual to be the new Special Projects Coordinator for Art Initiatives in the Little City. This position is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about beatifying their surroundings and instilling a love of the visual arts in the community. This is a part-time position that is funded project by project. Currently the City has funding for the sourcing and installation of artwork on four utility boxes. The candidate should have experience managing art projects and needs to be an outgoing person who is organized and detail oriented with excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Senior Recreation Specialist, employee will:

  • Coordinate the acceptance of art submissions. This may be by an open call for art, open call for art portfolios, or by commissioning artists.
  • Coordinate with City departments on the location of utility boxes and any easements needed.
  • Coordinate with the City’s Arts and Humanities Council on the criteria of the program and the selection/approval of artwork.
  • Coordinate with a firm to have the artwork printed and installed.
  • Coordinate a celebration upon completion.

Qualifications:

  • Experience managing art projects, public art project experience is a plus.
  • Experience setting deadlines and ensuring both internal and external stakeholders adhere to such.
  • Experience leading discussions in a group setting with many points of view.

Hours: This position is currently being recruited for and hired for this specific art wrap project. If future art projects are authorized and funded, the candidate will have the opportunity to assist on those future projects as funding is available.

It is anticipated that this project should take no more than 30 hours. Actual work hours are flexible with the exception of attending required meetings.

Salary Range & Benefits: $25.00/hour. This is a part-time position, with no benefits.
