Job Description

Summary: The role of EHS Specialist at Universal Studios Hollywood (USH) and CityWalk provides overall safety services and support to a variety of departments and business partners. As a Specialist, you will collaborate with many teams assisting them in the development and implementation of programs, processes, and communications to drive environmental, health & safety awareness and to reduce and prevent workplace injury or illness. Specialists may assist with or conduct incident investigations and identify opportunities to drive continuous safety improvement. Specialists will engage with Team Members and business partners to host safety engagement events, activities, and recognition programs to sustain a business-wide safety culture in support of the company core value ” Making Safety a Priority “. Specialists will be involved in environmental, health and safety program development, spanning a variety of regulatory topics applicable to USH business operations. Specialists will be responsible for identifying EHS training needs, monitoring and providing oversight of training; and establishing, maintaining, and presenting EHS training. Specialists will perform risk assessments and write safety bulletins, communications, or other materials to promote safety awareness or safety process reminders. Specialists will work with business partners to achieve results against safety KPIs and other safety performance goals. They will conduct change reviews of new offerings to include shows, rides, equipment, new jobs or change in job duties.

Essential Functions

  • Evaluates EHS risks and prescribes the necessary preventative and/or corrective measures in coordination with the EHS and area management teams.
  • Facilitates and maintains effective communication with management, team members and peers regarding EHS program implementation, hazard identification, trends, and progress against goals. Communication mechanisms include generating routine reports and scorecards, safety postings, area walk and talks with team members and participating in committees and management meetings.
  • Assists the management team during incident investigations, concern reports, near misses and emergent issues.
  • Ensures that inspections, audits, and drills are completed on schedule, documented as required and tracked to closure according to annual goals and EHS program requirements.
  • Anticipates and completes change reviews to address new EHS impacts to their clients.
  • Facilitates safety training on a variety of Environmental Health and Safety topics. Supports the Industrial Hygiene program by performing field assessments, basic interpretation of data, complete necessary documentation, and share results with clients.
  • Responds to safety concerns reported to the Safety Hotline/Concern Reporting system. Takes action to resolve client/customer service requests. Actively participates in and supports department driven activities, events, safety committees, etc.
  • Leads committees or working groups on safety matters or specific assigned safety projects, such as Arc Flash/Electrical Safety, or other hazard control program
  • Assesses and researches safety training needs and programs as determined by reviews of incident reports, needs assessment, safety inspections and mandated safety training requirements.
  • Develops, implements and coordinates cost effective safety training programs; reviews procedures and other training for safety content; designs criteria to measure effectiveness in meeting organization safety goals.
  • Develops, prepares, and maintains training related records, reports and other correspondence; collects, compiles and assesses training data.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in a safety, occupational health or environmental curriculum preferred or equivalent and proven work experience.
  • 3-5 Years of experience working in the Safety and Occupational Health field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Available to work based upon business demand in a 365-day/24/7 operation
  • Prior theme park experience highly desired
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to design and implement training programs.
  • Create and deliver clear and concise oral and visual presentations.
  • Capable of professional report writing and other business correspondence, procedures, documents
  • Effective presentation of technical information and timely response to questions and inquiries from a variety of business partners and Team Members
  • CSP, CIH, OHST, or other nationally recognized professional designation a plus
  • Comfortable speaking or delivering training in large and small group settings

o Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.
