This position serves as a SQL Administrator for the Department assisting higher level staff in the Midrange Wintel/SQL Support Unit. In this role you will assist higher level staff in performing revisions, installations, system enhancements, testing and implementation of software, and operating systems in accordance with agency requirements and Information Technology policy. In addition, you will participate on projects as a team member for assignments in relationship to the infrastructure being supported. Job Responsibilities
25% Under immediate supervision, serves as a SQL Administrator for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) assisting higher level staff in the Midrange Wintel/SQL Support Unit:
- Assists higher level staff in performing revisions, installations, system enhancements, testing and implementation of software and operating systems in accordance with agency requirements and Information Technology policy
- Documents installation and enhancements
- Maintains and coordinates software with the clients
25% Provides limited assistance to clients pertaining to hardware, software and operating systems:
- Assists with reviews of software, components and processes making written recommendations for modifications to provide availability, flexibility, and usability for clients
- Reviews, creates or modifies current configurations, tables and programs
- Monitors software and servers, including SQL servers and produces reports
20% Assists program staff with resolving software, database and operating system problems:
- Performs limited maintenance functions and systems tuning
- Monitors trouble tickets to ensure acceptable service levels to agencies within listed time frames are being met
- Escalates time sensitive trouble calls to manager and/or appropriate vendor for faster resolution time
- Refers questions and problems not defined by standard practice and established procedures to higher level staff
15% Participates on projects as a team member for assignments in relationship to the infrastructure being supported:
- Monitors project activity to ensure service requests and tasks are complete by the requested complete time and date
- Escalates problems to senior staff or supervisor in a timely manner
10% Keeps abreast of new developments in the IT field:
- Continues education by attending meetings, training sessions, seminars and conferences to increase familiarity with and maintain current on products, vendors, techniques and procedures
- Attends demonstrations and exhibitions related to assigned operations
- Travels when held off-site
5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of collect with coursework in computer science or directly related fields.
OR
2. Satisfactory completion of an agency sponsored training program
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)
1. Elementary knowledge of Windows server platforms, software packages and Microsoft SQL
2. Working knowledge of database concepts and database administration
3. Working knowledge of network printing, SharePoint, and Microsoft desktop packages
4. Working knowledge of LAN and Network Services
