As part of Amgen’s Process Development (PD) organization, Manufacturing and Clinical Supply (MCS) continuously strives to be a leader in delivering superior, high quality manufacturing processes and commercially successful product presentations. The MCS organization is responsible for delivery of clinical and commercial products, process knowledge and technology solutions to advance Amgen’s product portfolio and manufacturing strategy.

The Sr. Associate Strategic Planning & Ops lead will support Amgen Manufacturing Operations at the Global Headquarters in Thousand Oaks, reporting into the Executive Director, Drug Substance Supply (DSS). The individual leads business critical meetings along with providing support for business analysis, performance reporting, project management, data analysis, governance, resource, and budget planning, and enables key cross-functional initiatives. The successful candidate will take an active role in MCS business operations strategic planning and operations.

Experience (What the person will learn):

The job responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Coordinate internal communications, provide strategic support, and foster cross-departmental relationships to enable leadership success.
  • Planning, coordinating and leading meetings & workshops and ensuring content is focused.
  • Providing support and oversight for special projects and initiatives.
  • Identifying and providing recommendations for improvements across the organization.
  • Facilitate, organize, and prioritize critical issues and gather required information to enable efficient decision making.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in completing operations activities.
  • Metrics Management and Reporting: Oversight of monthly reporting for Business Review and related governance forums.
  • Portfolio and Project Management: Lead projects/processes including planning, estimating, scheduling, tendering, monitoring, reporting, execution, invoicing, and closeout. Ensure timely and clear communication with all cross-functional partners.
  • Continuous Improvement: Support Plant Operational Excellence capabilities to the critical areas in the value chain in need of productivity improvement (e.g., lean transformation, run rate increase projects).
  • Data analysis: Develop presentations based on data and communicate analysis and recommendations to Senior Management. Perform trend analysis to drive decisions. Support business and resource forecasting and financial modeling.
  • Communications Leadership: Develop materials and communicate analysis and recommendations to Senior Management. Synthesize information and insights into executive summaries and presentations for Senior Management.
  • Support the facilitation of the strategic planning process for Drug Substance Supply (DSS).
  • Monitor and support strategic business initiatives, from development through successful execution, under the guidance of senior leadership and Executive Director.
  • Assist and communicate with MCS leaders in decision-making, program management, and initiative implementation.
  • Improve current processes and optimize organizational procedures for efficiency and productivity.

Basic Qualifications:

Master’s degree

Or

Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of project management experience

Or

Associate’s degree and 6 years of project management experience

Or

High school diploma / GED and 8 years of project management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Independent self-starter. Ability to set clear goals and efficient prioritize workload, operate autonomously, and deliver timely, high-quality work output and in teams. Understands what it means to own something and be accountable.
  • Strong interest in learning new things, ability to take on tasks with limited information.
  • Ability to foster collaboration, work effectively on cross-functional teams, and consistently deliver on-time.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; proven time management and decision-making skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Quick learner, proactive, takes initiative.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Strong experience with Project Management tools, methodologies, and practices.
  • Proven experience in a highly fluid, interactive, matrix environment.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite, MS Project, SharePoint, and Smartsheet.
  • 5 years of project management experience in life science/manufacturing/operations.

This position will be paid on an hourly basis. The annualized base pay range for this opportunity in the U.S. is $85,832 – $101,357.
