THE WHO:
As the Designer-Champion, you will play a key role in setting and executing Champion’s seasonal creative tone and direction. A successful candidate will be a highly creative problem solver, who does not settle for anything less than the best execution. You are a visionary to our creative peers and meets the needs of our target consumers. Demonstrates that he/she/they understands the duality between contemporary lifestyle and athletic trends. Each season you will bring to life the category’s seasonal assortment and build key programs based on seasonal concepts and color trend. You will liaise with factory and vendor partners to ensure products are developed within our quality standards. Possess an owner mentality and passionate about design with vision- clear and aspirational.
THE WHAT:
- Contribute to overall trend and direction for each season, for all designs, and categories.
- Propose new designs for seasonal collections in terms of research, sketching, and material proposals.
- Identify fabrics and yarns that are within budget guidelines (line plan) to develop into product. Collaborate with partners in Production to manage lead-time, minimum order requirements, and costing constraints.
- Identify colors for fabrics selected at the Raw Materials meeting.
- Create and maintain tech packs and BOMs via Adobe and Web PLM software.
- Present development samples and color palette for merchant review at Proto and Finalization Meetings.
- Oversee the set-up of spec sheets for all chosen bodies. Communicate fit and construction details to Technical Design department. Complete all design sketches including notions and trims for domestic and overseas programs, CAD styles were possible.
- Shop and observe street fashion several times a year. Take photos and purchase samples for inspiration.
- Collaborate with direct report (Senior Designer), product development team and product merchant team on a weekly basis to review emerging styles in-season.
- Participate in weekly fittings, take notes, and make revisions based on fitting results.
- Manage proto samples for all relevant product each season.
- Obsessively lives in the details and creates efficient process and organizing methods.
- Seasonally files and organizes design folders that’s inclusive of artwork, sketches, and CADS.
- Develop and train Associate Designer members. Motivate and encourage them to be creative and to support your needs.

Qualifications
- 3+ years relevant design experience
- Strong experience in contemporary sportswear and youth culture.
- Have the vision to identify trends in their early stages and understand their impact to fashion.
- Excellent communication skills to communicate ideas and inspirations to others and to interact with designers, merchants and other Home Office staff.
- Ability to research and report on industry trend direction, color direction, and fabric innovations approximately 9-12 months ahead of season.
- Organizational skills necessary to manage multiple tasks and projects and complete them within deadlines.
- Excellent hand sketching and/or CAD skills in Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Comprehensive knowledge of apparel construction, including dying, silk screening, washing techniques and other treatments.
The pay range for this position is $80,000 to $110,000 per year.
