Sr Counsel- Remote

PURPOSE:

Provide advice and guidance Company-wide on a broad range of employment law issues, including compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws; assessing and mitigating risk; defending the company against demands, charges, and claims; drafting and reviewing employment-related policies; and assessing and mitigating risk.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Job Responsibilities

  • Advises clients (including senior management) on a day-to-day basis on a variety of employment-related issues including personnel decisions, leave and accommodation requests, investigations, legal requirements, best practices, and other employment-related topics
  • Plan, conduct, and lead a variety of complex specialized employment law projects that has a significant impact on the business
  • Work with HR, Security, and other Legal Stakeholders including close partnership with the SVP of Employment Law and AGCs of Employment Law, this role is a strategic thought partner to various portions of the business including operations and HR
  • Develops and supports the implementation of employment policies, standards, and procedures
  • Provides training to Human Resources and other business partners on a variety of legal and compliance topics
  • Defends the company against demands, charges, and claims, including developing and executing litigation strategy and supervision of outside counsel
  • Research, analyze, and provide verbal and written advice on employment issues
  • Stay up to date on federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and ensures compliance with same, including partnering with employment law team paralegal to manage compliance program and developing monthly training topics for the broader HR team
  • Trains on and oversees workplace investigations, conduct investigations if required

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education/ Certifications/or Equivalent combination of education training and experience:

  • J.D. Degree
  • Membership in good standing with a state bar and the ability to register as in-house counsel pursuant to the applicable state rules.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in law firm or corporate legal department handling employment law issues, including experience litigating employment matters and significant involvement in investigations
  • Experience in designing and implementing complex processes, policies, and practices
  • Experience in workplace safety matters preferred (not required)

Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities:

  • Excellent client counseling skills, including the ability to present guidance and recommendations to clients timely, clearly, and concisely
  • Team player who is willing to jump in and help when needed
  • Strong strategic, critical, and analytical thinking skills
  • Ability to successfully navigate a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to work autonomously, collaborate, build relationships, gain credibility and partner with others in a complex organization in pursue of the best possible business and legal objectives

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/ DEMANDS:

  • Some travel required
  • Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment
  • Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of normal workday
  • Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Compensation

  • Pay Range: $131400.00 – $253600.00 Annually ($63.17 – $121.92 Hourly)
  • Other Compensation: Long Term Incentive and Bonus Eligible
