OVERVIEW
CR is currently seeking a Senior Data Scientist for our Innovation Lab team to help design and prototype solutions to many urgent problems consumers face today.
You will serve as the embedded senior data scientist on a fast-moving team, responsible for delivering proofs of concept and demonstrating new, innovative ways CR can show up for consumers. In this role, you will regularly ship work that has a real impact on the marketplace and people’s lives. You’ll be reporting to Innovation Lab’s Director of Product R&D.
Under our CRFlex program, this position is eligible for Fully Remote status for candidates who live more than 75 miles from one of our main office locations (Yonkers, NY, Washington DC, Colchester, CT). Additionally, the successful candidate must reside in one of the following locations: Arizona, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, Texas, Vermont, Washington D.C.

HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT
As Senior Data Scientist, you’ll have an opportunity to work on some of the most pressing issues facing consumers today: How we find information. How we protect our personal data. How we get the fair treatment we deserve.
You will be responsible for supporting data and analytics-driven research and product development. Using advanced statistical analysis, data mining, and data visualization techniques, you will leverage and synthesize data from various sources to enhance development and deliver insights.
You will collaborate closely with CR’s Data Engineering & Data Science teams and help apply techniques from the Innovation Lab portfolio toward CR’s core ratings and reviews organization, and vice versa. Cross-divisional collaboration to acquire and synthesize data, understand both internal and external analytic and product development goals, and communicate and package potential solutions will be key
All of your work will be in service of helping CR nurture new technologies and solutions that advance consumers’ interests. Some of your projects will inform future revenue-generating projects underwriting CR’s non-profit mission; others will help us fail faster and smarter, with valuable learnings for our peers trying to build a better marketplace.
ABOUT YOU
You’ll Be Highly Rated If:
- You have a minimum of six years of experience – in applied data science with a focus on product and solutions development
- You’re a programmer – you bring skills in R, Python, Scala, SQL with MatLab or Mathematica, as well as familiarity with agile development
- You have strong data wrangling skills – and experience cleaning and optimizing text data for analysis; ability to apply data analysis techniques including predictive modeling and regression, demonstrated understanding of advanced statistical topics such as experimental design and linear models
You’ll be one of our top picks if:
- You have a Master’s degree – in computer science, information science, math or related field.
- You’re data obsessed – you’re comfortable building and evaluating data sets, and putting them to work in new product experiences
- You’re fascinated by AI – you’ve studied ML/AI, NLP, and deep learning, and played around with LLMs via OpenAI or other AI engines, adversarial neural networks, and transformer models
- You’re savvy with our stack – you’re experienced with Databricks, Dataiku and/or Rstudio (Posit), and/or Tableau, and have experience building data science pipelines in Sparks and kubernetes cluster optimization

FAIR PAY & A JUST WORKPLACE
At Consumer Reports, we are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is $130k to $145k. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall near the middle of this range. Compensation for the successful candidate will be informed by the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.
