Sr. Data Scientist – Kuiper, SDN: Capacity Management

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband network connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

Key job responsibilities

* Solve large scale and complex optimization problems for operating and planning satellite constellations

* Work with our peer teams and customers to design suitable software systems to fulfill the mission needs.

* Write code for production cloud native software systems in Java and Python.

* Utilize AWS and other Amazon technologies to build high-available software services.

* Help on-board and mentor new team members.

* Lead technical roadmap definition efforts and decide what software services to build.

Export Control Requirement

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

A day in the life

You will be focused on contributing to the design and analysis of software systems responsible across a broad range of areas required for automated management and planning of the Kuiper constellation. You will use mathematical modeling, optimization algorithms, state and capacity estimation, space systems, and software engineering to drive the solution of a variety of problems to enable space operations at an unprecedented scale. You will develop features for systems to interface with internal and external teams, predict and plan communication opportunities, manage satellite orbits determination and prediction systems, develop analysis and infrastructure to monitor and support systems performance.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

– 5+ years of data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab, etc.) experience

– 4+ years of data scientist experience

– Experience with statistical models e.g. multinomial logistic regression

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

– 2+ years of data visualization using AWS QuickSight, Tableau, R Shiny, etc. experience

– Experience managing data pipelines

– Experience as a leader and mentor on a data science team

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $127,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $247,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
