As a Senior Database Reliability Engineer (DBRE) at Cloud Platform team at Lucid, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the reliability, scalability, and performance of our database systems. You will collaborate closely with our engineering, operations, and data teams to design, implement, and optimize our database architecture, ensuring that our data systems meet the highest standards of availability and integrity. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver with a deep understanding of database technologies and a strong commitment to continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and maintain robust and scalable database systems that support the company’s applications and services.
- Perform regular monitoring, performance tuning, and optimization of database systems to ensure high availability and responsiveness that include but not limited to Elastic Stack, InfluxDB, MongoDB, Cassandra, TimescaleDB, TSDB, Redis, and Postgres/MySQL.
- Design and implement backup, recovery, and failover strategies to ensure data integrity and minimize downtime in the event of system failures.
- Develop and maintain documentation related to database architecture, configuration, and processes to facilitate knowledge sharing and onboarding.
- Build HA big-data systems and can manage highly scalable databases that can handle a high volume of data ingestion with low latent query responses.
- Participate in incident response and troubleshooting efforts, diagnosing and resolving database-related issues promptly to minimize impact on operations.
- Identify and address security vulnerabilities and compliance requirements within the database environment, implementing appropriate measures to safeguard sensitive data.
- Implement automation and tooling to streamline database operations, configuration management, and deployment processes, developing tools or using Terraform.
- Stay up to date with industry best practices, trends, and emerging technologies in the database and data management space.
- Participate in on-call rotation to keep up the service SLA per the business needs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
- 5+ years of experience in SRE or DevOps Engineering.
- 3+ years of experience in the management and operational administration of NoSQL databases such as Cassandra, InfluxDB, MongoDB, ElasticSearch, Prometheus, or other similar databases and at least 1 year of experience in managing Postgres/MySQL.
- 3 years of experience deploying and maintaining applications that are built using Docker and orchestrated on Kubernetes on Public or Private Cloud Providers
- 1-3 years of experience using Cloud Automation tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, Cluster API, or other frameworks.
- 1-3 years of experience and proficiency in scripting and automation using languages like Python, Bash, or similar.
- 1-3 years of experience with tools such as Jenkins, Argo CD, Artifactory, etc., to build automation, CI/CD, Self-Service pipelines.
- In-depth knowledge of database management systems, including both relational and NoSQL databases.
- Strong expertise in SQL, database design, performance optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Experienced with running large-scale distributed computing infrastructure for running Data Platforms using Spark, Hive, Presto, Zookeeper, and Kafka
- Experienced with various debugging tools and troubleshooting performance bottlenecks at the infrastructure or the application tier.
- Possess the traits of being detail-oriented, time management, collaborative, and dedicated to quality.
- Experience with cloud-based database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database) is highly desirable.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Good to know about REST-based APIs and knows how to triage the request-response.
Salary Range: The compensation range for this position is specific to the locations listed below and is the range Lucid reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; and other relevant business and organizational factors.
• California (Bay Area) – $127,000 – $181,500
Additional Compensation and Benefits: Lucid offers a wide range of competitive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, vacation, and 401k. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in Lucid’s equity program and/or a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing such programs. (Cash or equity incentive awards, if any, will depend on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and company performance.)
