Sr. IT Systems Engineer

We are seeking a self-motivated, experienced Sr. IT Systems Engineer. The Sr. IT Systems Engineer must be reliable, a team player, and understand the importance of good communication and documentation. Our ideal candidate will flexible and willing to shift their quarterly focus depending on business needs. This person is willing to go above and beyond to expand their skill set, learn about cybersecurity, and take on new challenges.

This position requires extensive experience troubleshooting Microsoft Active Directory, Azure AD, Windows Servers, Exchange Online, Hyper-V, GPO, and Office 365 issues. The Sr. Systems Engineer will lead systems projects and assist with evaluating, developing, and maintaining our security policies and documentation. They are responsible for day-to-day monitoring of servers and applications alerts and performances. The Sr. IT Systems Engineer will also lead efforts to implement cybersecurity-related technologies such as Endpoint Manager, Conditional Access, and other Microsoft Governance and Compliance policies.

What You’ll Do:

Infrastructure and Cybersecurity Responsibilities (60-70%)

  • Monitor, administer, maintain, and troubleshoot on-prem environment, including Active Directory, GPOs, File and Print services, Microsoft Certificate Server, Windows Server, Hyper-V cluster, and Veeam backups
  • Monitor, administer, maintain, and troubleshoot cloud environment, including Azure IaaS, Azure AD, SharePoint, and other Office 365 applications
  • Lead effort to migrate local Data Center infrastructure to Gov Public Cloud
  • Lead effort to migrate local file storage to SharePoint
  • Responsible for local and cloud Server and Application performance
  • Analyze, diagnose, isolate, and identify system problems. Create short-term solution to alleviate problem symptoms. Identify root causes and create and/or execute long term remediation plans
  • Conduct implementations that include configuring, installing, and updating servers and applications based on standards
  • Participate in systems planning and help develop Systems roadmap
  • Lead systems maintenance efforts and performs system hardening
  • Responsible for monitoring and maintaining NetApp, Dell Servers, and other appliances at the data center
  • Work closely with MSSP to continually monitor and analyze system activity to identify malicious activity
  • Document and escalate incidents (including event’s history, status, and potential impact for further action) that may cause ongoing and immediate environmental impact
  • Review authorization and assurance documents to confirm that the level of risk is within acceptable limits for each software application, system, and network. Ensure that plans of action and milestones or remediation plans are in place for vulnerabilities identified during risk assessments, audits, inspections, etc.
  • Assure successful implementation and functionality of security requirements and appropriate IT policies and procedures that are consistent with the organization’s mission and goals
  • Ensure that security design and cybersecurity development activities are properly documented (providing a functional description of security implementation) and updated as necessary
  • Support necessary compliance activities (e.g., ensure that system security configuration guidelines are followed, compliance monitoring occurs)

Helpdesk Support Tier II (30-40%):

  • Serve as Tier II technical support for helpdesk tickets
  • When necessary, serve as Tier I support
  • Work closely with Tier I to resolve issues and train on new technologies
  • Follow established documentation, procedures, and policies. Find opportunities to improve our practices and discuss new ideas
  • Create new and/or update existing technical documentation
  • Mentor junior member of the team
  • Perform assigned tasks as assigned by management

What You’ll Bring:

  • At least 7-15 years’ experience in Systems Engineering
  • Skilled in Active Directory, GPO, Windows Servers, PowerShell, DNS, and Veeam
  • Good knowledge of Azure AD, Conditional Access, Endpoint Manager, SharePoint, Exchange Online, Office 365, and Zoom
  • Good knowledge of general Storage, Veeam and Server technologies
  • Microsoft Azure certificate a plus
  • Cybersecurity such as SIEM, Intune, Azure Conditional Access, and MFA experience a plus
  • Team player, proactive, reliable, and self-motivated
  • Always look to optimize and automate
  • Available for planned support and/or emergencies 24×7
  • Familiarity with NIST 800-171 or NIST 800-53 preferred
  • US Citizenship with ability to obtain a Clearance

Pay Range:

$93,000-$135,000

However, base salary for this position will vary based on your skills, qualifications, and experience.
