Description
The Senior Laboratory Information System (LIS) Analyst evaluates, assigns, monitors and maintains applications for the Pathology and Laboratory Services in conjunction with the Orange Coast Medical Center and the MemorialCare Health System. The Senior LIS Analyst provides advanced support related to the acquisition and use of assigned laboratory application and system modules. Responsibilities include but are not limited to trouble shooting of system issues, managing system upgrades, access and security, report management, and employee and physician system training and support. Other duties include maintaining testing codes, test descriptions and facilitating charge master updates. The LIS Senior LIS Analyst provides analysis of data and trends, and recommends action for improvement. In performing duties and tasks, the incumbent applies specific clinical knowledge, to ensure effective and optimal use of current applications, incorporation of enhancements or process improvements, all in collaboration with MHS’ Clinical implementation and support teams. The Senior LIS Analyst may participate in any phase of both large and small projects; individuals are accountable for the success of assigned tasks, operation of assigned system modules, and user understanding of such applications. The Senior LIS Analyst also functions as a point of user contact for Information Services and is accountable for specific customer/user satisfaction. Individuals within this job classification may also assist with specific Clinical Training materials, educating staff, physicians and others as such are related to relevant information systems and services.
Essential Job Outcomes
- Perform maintenance and modification for the daily operation of the laboratory information system, including software and hardware, LIS applications and system interface for multi-hospital network.
- Troubleshoot LIS, interface, software and hardware issues in a timely and comprehensive manner.
- Serve as liaison and resource for campus-wide IS and enterprise-wide IS as applicable to the laboratory information system.
- Act as a resource person to assist in resolving issues and providing instruction to others.
- Demonstrate a high level working knowledge with IS applications and processes.
- Participates in and occasionally leads various clinical optimization projects to ensure achievement of objectives, timetables, budget, and overall project success.
- Collaborate with Application Architects, Project Managers, Technical Specialists and senior team members to meet evolving user needs related to existing or anticipated application modifications. Participate in the development of user requirements for new or updated applications. Effectively manage time and resources to ensure that work is completed efficiently.

Pay Range: $84,552 – $122,616
Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum of four years’ progressive work experience supporting a laboratory information system as an analyst, technical specialist or equivalent clinical experience.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Good analytical, logical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of specific Clinical laboratory applications/modules with “Certification” and/or “Proficiency” status pending as is appropriate to specific vendors.
- Working knowledge of PCs, collaborative computing tools, re-engineering/process improvement techniques, healthcare information management, general information architectures and technology, systems integration, laws, and regulations relevant to assigned applications.
- Working knowledge of laboratory procedures and patient information management systems preferred.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in related field with an emphasis in Information Technology or Health Informatics, and/or licensed healthcare professional desirable.
