The mission of the Office of Facilities Planning and Management (OFPM) in the School of Medicine is to enable the success of our faculty, students, and community. We are a team of professionals who are stewards of our facilities and operations. We analyze and plan for our future facility needs while managing the safe and reliable operations of our existing facilities. OFPM is responsible for space and real estate, project management, facilities operations, safety and emergency preparedness, capital planning and budget.
OFPM is seeking a Sr. Planner/Project Manager to help plan the future of Stanford University School of Medicine facilities that enable the School’s continued success. This position will plan and manage multiple project typologies from small to large, with high performance risk. Work is typically comprised of 50% time contribution towards project leadership and 50% as a technical contributor. The primary focus of the work will be in the areas of facilities planning, lab planning, design management, and ensuring the development of projects that contribute to the success of our faculty and student community. The position is a Hybrid position with multiple weekdays required onsite.
Duties include:
- Responsible for planning future School of Medicine facilities that are innovative, sustainable, and contribute to the advancement of School of Medicine.
- Development of initial project definition, including conducting feasibility studies and initial project plans and estimates. Develop requirements for resources, including management, labor, materials, and time required to complete project.
- Perform the full range of project management cycle: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing. Independently lead and direct projects requiring high levels of functional integration and involving multiple disciplines to be managed.
- Facilitate discussions and negotiations with end users and other stakeholders to drive program recommendation resulting in programming documents enabling project definition and execution.
- Develop and help execute comprehensive change management strategy and communication plan that reflects the changing nature of work.
- Act as liaison with Stanford University Land, Building and Real Estate Project Managers on projects over $5M, with manager or Senior Project Manager support, ensuring that the project meets School of Medicine standards and objectives.
- Create Planning Documents clearly outlining concept plans and space planning options. Utilize site maps, building floorplans, space databases, PowerPoint, and CAD. Work with Planners and Space Managers to ensure accurate space data reporting.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in architecture or related field required.
- Experience in developing research facilities preferred.
- Experience with institutional/biotech/pharma projects preferred.
- Skilled in use of project management and design software applications and tools.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five years of related experience in management of projects with extensive size/complexity and moderate performance risk, including project planning, scheduling, tracking, and budgeting.

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:
- License in architecture or related field.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
- Frequently stand/walk, sit, perform desk-based computer tasks and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
- Occasionally use a telephone, write by hand, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 20 pounds.
- Rarely kneel, crawl, climb ladders, reach/work above shoulder, grasp forcefully, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds or more.
- Ability to maintain a valid non-commercial California Driver’s license.
- Auditory acuity with ability to hear horns and bells.
- Visual acuity with ability to determine colors for finishes.
- Ability to climb scaffolding, ladders, stairs etc.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- May work in active laboratories or outdoor environments.

- May drive vehicle day and night.

The expected pay range for this position is $134,000 to $181,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
