General Statement of Duties
Forsyth County’s Department of Social Services is seeking to hire a Child Protective Service (CPS) Sr. Social Worker (Intake) This position works in the Child Protective Services (CPS) Intake Unit. The hours of work are: M – F 8:00am – 5:00pm. This position requires excellent customer service and interview skills, as well as, the ability to convey information obtained in a concise and accurate written form. The primary function of this position is to complete a CPS Report Form and complete a first level screening decision based upon State Guidelines.
This position is primarily a desk position with occasional assignments to interview children and adults in the community. This position involves a lot of typing and speaking with others. Sometimes the reporter is very hostile and makes defamatory comments to the CPS Intake worker. The CPS Intake worker must be able to use de-escalation skills to calm a reporter and also be able to respond to a reporter instead of reacting to what is being said. The person in this position should also be familiar with community resources.
Distinguishing Features
The selected candidate must understand and utilize correctly all Federal, State, and local laws, policies, and procedures relevant to child abuse, neglect and dependency. This person must be able to communicate effectively with individuals from a wide range of social and economic backgrounds and a variety of mental capacities in order to convey information obtained in a concise and accurate format.
The CPS Intake social worker must be able to use de-escalation techniques to maintain a calm environment and respond proactively to situations that may become disruptive while working with clients who are reporting complaints.
This position is assigned to the CPS Intake Unit at Forsyth County Department of Social Services.
The standard work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. In addition, there may be times when this individual will need to drive a County vehicle to interview children or adults in order to complete the case initiation of a CPS reported complaint.
Minimum Education and Experience
Master’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work or;
Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative or;
Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year of directly related experience or;
Master’s degree in counseling in a human services field and one year of social work or counseling (Department of Social Services) or;
Bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years of directly related experience or;
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience (Department of Social Services).
Valid driver’s license required.
Bilingual is a plus

– Maintain electronic database information / inputting both alpha and numeric data elements;
– Ability to summarize information in a concise an accurate manner;
– Completing documentation in a timely manner based on county, state, and federal
requirements to ensure appropriate service provision to children and families;
– Flexible with daily work assignments as needed;
– Completing and submitting documentation within established timeframes;
– Completing all documentation related to initial legal and court proceedings and;
– Attending at least 24 hours of ongoing professional development training each appraisal year.
