General Statement of Duties
The Forsyth County Department of Social Services is seeking a Sr. Social Worker Supervisor to direct and oversee the work activities of a social work unit that is responsible for the delivery of Child Protective Services. The CPS Sr. Social Worker Supervisor will implement work standards and expectations within the unit as defined by state/federal guidelines, NC statutes, and county/agency policies.

This individual will gather and evaluate unit data to measure performance, review case records, and dictation for accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and county standards, statutes, and protocols on a regular basis, conduct conferences, evaluate situations and progress and provide direction and guidance toward case completion to ensure compliance.

  • Coach and train staff;
  • Organize and direct the work of others;
  • Monitor work for compliance with federal and state standards, statutes, and protocols;
  • Complete statistical reports accurately and timely;
  • Assess work performance of others on an ongoing basis;
  • Complete performance appraisals in a timely manner; and
  • Evaluate Unit performance.

There may be occasions when the Sr. Social Work Supervisor will have to work after 5:00 p.m. to assist social work staff.
Minimum Education and Experience
Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work and two years of social work or counseling experience or;

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of social work and three years of social work or counseling experience or;

Master’s degree in a counseling field and three years of social work or counseling experience or;

A four year degree in a human services field or related curriculum including at least 15 semester hours in courses related to social work or counseling and four years of social work or counseling or;

Graduation from a four-year college or university and five years experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling, group work, or community organization.

A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.

Valid driver’s license required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Reviewing program objectives and service delivery needs with staff and formulating specific goals and objectives for the assigned program area;
  • Assigning cases to staff and maintaining workload balance, making changes in work procedures to meet program demands, and presenting recommendations to management on issues which impact programmatic goals, objectives, and policies;
  • Providing limited input in the development, justification, or allocation of funds and may manage a small unit budget necessary for staff administrative expenditures;
  • Providing on the job training for staff and making arrangements for staff to receive formal training when offered;
  • Ensuring that policies, rules, and regulations are followed; and
  • Monitoring the work of subordinate staff through case reviews, progress reports, conferences, and informal discussions to ensure compliance with operational standards and established policies.
