General Statement of Duties
The Forsyth County Department of Social Services is seeking to hire a In Senior Social Work Supervisor to lead the In Home Services unit.

The Sr. Social Work Supervisor must be able to direct and oversee the work activities of a unit that is comprised of five (5) Sr. Social Workers who provide direct services to clients. This individual will have to work in conjunction with the other In-Home Services Sr. Social Work Supervisors, the Child Protective Services (CPS) Sr. Social Work Supervisors, the Foster Care Sr. Social Work Supervisors, and all other members of the Family and Children’s Division.

Distinguishing Features
This position requires independent decision making, assessment skills, professional judgment, intercommunity collaboration, and knowledge of local resources. The person in this role must be able to effectively communicate with a variety of persons from various socioeconomic backgrounds and a variety of mental capabilities.

The individual will have to implement work standards and expectations within this unit as defined by state and federal guidelines, NC statutes and county/agency policies. This individual will gather and evaluate unit data to measure performance, review dictation for accuracy and compliance with federal, state and county standards, statutes and protocols, on a regular basis; conduct conferences, evaluate case situations/progress and provide direction and guidance to ensure compliance.

The typical work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Duties may include work after hours to assist Social Work staff with client services activities.
Minimum Education and Experience
Minimum Education:
Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work and two years of social work or counseling experience; or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of social work and three years of social work or counseling experience; or a master’s degree in a counseling field and three years of social work or counseling experience; or a four year degree in a human services field or related curriculum including at least 15 semester hours in courses related to social work or counseling and four years of social work or counseling; or graduation from a four-year college or university and five years experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling, group work, or community organization. A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.

Preferred education and experience include:

Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work;

0r a Master’s Degree in Counseling or a human services field from an accredited college or university and one year of social work, counseling, or directly-related child welfare experience;

Supervisory experience preferred.

Valid driver’s license required to attend court, training, meetings, and off site sessions as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Supervising a staff of Social Workers in a single sub-unit or multiple service programs; may carry a small case load.

Reviewing program objectives and service delivery needs with staff

Formulating specific goals and objectives for the assigned program area

Providing input to higher level management on short-range planning needs for the staff or assigned unit.

Presenting recommendations to management on issues which impact on programmatic goals, objectives, and policies.

Providing limited input in the development, justification, or allocation of funds; may manage a small unit budget necessary for staff administrative expenditures.

Ensures that policies, rules, and regulations are followed.

Monitoring the work of subordinate staff through case reviews, progress reports, conferences and informal discussions to assure compliance with operational standards and policies.

Performing actions and addressing issues related to personnel and the unit budget; including, but not limited to the recruitment and selection process, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and maintaining and recommending unit budget items.

Performs related work as required. There may be other duties assigned within child welfare as necessary.
