The Role
As a Staff Structural Engineer on the Energy Infrastructure team you will be playing a critical role in large CAPEX green field and brown field projects that have big impacts on Tesla’s future outlook. You will be the knowledge hub to assess structural feasibility that gets translated to timeline and budget implications to facilitate decision making at the early phase of the projects. You will be working in an integrated manner in the site selection phase and design/construct basis of design, RFP packages. You will drive critical capex projects working with internal and external stakeholders, interfacing with end users, construction engineering, and manufacturing engineering teams while ensuring your scopes are ahead of schedule and under budget.
Responsibilities
• Provide planning estimates of different structural systems with high level scoping information
• Produce structural design specifications and basis of design documents as part of RFP packages
• Perform high level structural analysis and calculations to inform bill of material
• Perform “what if” analysis of different structural systems that are suitable for the project
• Perform assessment during site selection phase of the project to inform the structural implications at different sites, the pros and cons of each site when it comes to structural system
• Expect to be proactively working with civil engineer, land surveyor, geotechnical engineer, and land developer early on to assess site development feasibility
• Analyze existing buildings/structures and prepare existing building structural assessment report and escalate the potential risks of high cost and long pole items
• Manage design and development of large capex projects by collaborating with internal and external teams
• Provide technical guidance on complex design and field issues
• Prepare preliminary concepts and designs for quotes and review/comment on project specifications
Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with Structural Engineering concentration or the equivalent experience. Advanced degree preferred
• Cross functional knowledge base and experiences to inform do’s and don’ts on a project early on and drive the project to develop in the right direction
• Scope out the project from initial concept
• Experience in design and analysis of structural steel, wood and concrete buildings and structures
• Strong background in construction & working with various vendors with demonstrated focus on constructability
• Experience using modeling software, Solidworks, AutoCAD 3D, Revit and Naviswork
• Knowledge of ASME, ASTM, AISC, ACI codes and experience in their application
• Register Professional Engineer (PE) in California
• 10 years of experience in structural design/analysis
• Structural Engineer (SE) in California is preferred

$92,000 – $282,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
