Position Overview
Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) has immediate openings for several Senior (Sr.) Traffic Engineers and Lead MOT Engineers, for our growing Traffic/ITS Group working in either our Lone Tree Colorado office or Bellevue Washington Office. We are looking for strong leaders, who want to grow their skills in developing others, while staying hands on in the complex designs of design/build projects. Be a part of our rapidly growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes structural, geotechnical, MOT, pavement, utilities, drainage, roadway, rail, traffic, and materials disciplines. This infrastructure design group is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the design-build delivery of infrastructure projects.
We had our highest revenues ever in 2022 and our transportation market grew by 16% last year. As a Senior Traffic Engineer or Lead MOT Engineer, you will be leading segments of complete portions of complex Traffic and MOT designs for our project teams in Canada, Mexico, for design/build and other alternative delivery projects in North America.

These positions are based in our Lone Tree Colorado or Bellevue Washington offices. We offer excellent relocation assistance to candidates outside of the area.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor and oversee mid-level staff and junior staff.
- Lead/Supervise engineers/designers in the modeling and design of traffic signal systems, signing and striping, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), illumination, and temporary traffic control.
- Lead the production and delivery of project reports, plans, specifications and estimates for traffic portions of Infrastructure projects.
- Will be involved in the technical production and delivery of all traffic components for North America projects through coordination with multiple design teams.
- Lead interdisciplinary design coordination to ensure that project elements are compatible
- Conduct capacity analyses, traffic counts on roadways to determine traffic volume and flow patterns, and oversee Traffic investigations being performed in the field
- Recommend traffic safety enhancements based on field studies
- Analyze and evaluate complex design and construction phasing plans to formulate effective traffic engineering strategies, and to ensure compliance with the feasibility and safety requirements
- Lead project technical meetings and provide coordination to resolve design issues
- Sign and seal final design of project traffic elements such as traffic signals, signing and striping, ITS, illumination, and maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans
Qualifications
- 10+ years of transportation project experience, performing similar traffic design functions as outlined above.
- Must have at least 2 years leading/mentoring engineers and interested in continuing in a role leading and supervising others.
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Civil Engineering. An emphasis in traffic engineering is desirable.
- Master’s degree in Traffic Engineering or related field desired
- Professional Engineer licensure required. PTOE is recommended
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of designing traffic signal systems, ITS, signing / striping, and/or lighting/electrical elements for transportation projects
- Familiarity with design-build delivery is preferred
- Working knowledge and experience with MicroStation (OpenRoads Designer (ORD)) or AutoCAD / Civil 3D platforms
- Skills in traffic simulation / modeling software including Synchro/SimTraffic, Vissim, TransModeler, HCS, and similar platforms are desirable
- General knowledge of MOT is preferred, and experience developing construction plans for transportation projects is ideal.

Base Compensation: $120,000 – $200,000
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
