Primary Responsibilities
The Sr. Transportation Manager will oversee the financial process within Outbound Transportation including driver management, budget forecasting, fleet safety, and financial reporting. Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining cost effective fleet practices to support KeHE’s customers and vendors. The Sr. Transportation Manager is also primarily responsible and accountable for analysis and reporting for the KeHE outbound and inbound networks.
Essential Functions
- Track, analyze and report transportation financial metrics in support of outbound transportation.
- Prepare analytics to design transportation optimization solutions.
- Assist in the development of scorecards, collaborating with team members to report operational and financial metrics.
- Develop strategic bid plans considering current and future industry state, aligning to the strategic transportation plans and KeHE financial targets.
- Develop and implement holistic driver management strategy for KeHE’s professional truck drivers.
- Develop and implement driver focused tactics for the local transportation deployment that optimizes the utilization of drivers, equipment, and capital resources.
- Responsible for ensuring route optimization across inbound and outbound functions of the local transportation network.
- Work with carrier partners and internal team members to understand freight impact, resolve issues and ensure top tier service and performance for customers and vendors.
- Manage invoicing and audit process and resolve issues regarding payment and rates.
- Oversee the freight claims process for the local team.
- Assess, create, and deliver carrier and driver performance measurements and develop & implement action plans to continuously improve service.
- Support day to day transportation business processes in close collaboration with Warehouse Operations Managers.
- Administer and maintain the Transportation Management System.
- Analyze, manage, and report on key performance indicators and key performance drivers.
- Work cross functionally with local and national HR for recruiting, onboarding, and performance management of drivers.
- Continuously improve workforce planning for current and future state optimization of customer demand and on time delivery.
- Ability to develop and apply best in class DOT/FMCSA compliant safety practices.
Minimum Requirements, Qualifications, Additional Skills, Aptitude
- Degree in business/finance/logistics preferred.
- Robust knowledge of DOT/FMCSA safety and compliance measures
- Proven skills in accident and incident investigations
- A minimum of 7 years previous transportation/logistics experience with at least 3 years as supervisor required.
- Experience in truckload, intermodal and LTL across multiple temperature classes. Private fleet experience a plus.
- Solid analytical capabilities for reviewing large amounts of data, summarizing the material for management, and identifying the critical issues at both the summary and the detail level.
- Advanced level computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Access, TMS
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Must be results-oriented, self-directed, and have excellent time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, Customer focused.
- Able to lead a team and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong process improvement skills
- Up to 25% travel required.
