Job Summary:

The School of Computer, Data & Information Sciences (CDIS) focuses on world-leading research and education at the intersection of technology and humanity. Computing and data permeate every aspect of society from agriculture to tourism, medicine to manufacturing and everything in between. The school is a first-of-its-kind collaboration created in 2019 that brings together three highly regarded departments – Computer Sciences, the Information School and Statistics. CDIS is home to nearly 5,000 students and includes both the largest undergraduate major and the fastest growing major at UW-Madison (Computer Sciences and Data Science, respectively). The Advancement Program Manager will report directly to the Director of Advancement and be responsible for developing new and impactful advancement initiatives with alumni and donors that will contribute to CDIS efforts to establish a national reputation for excellence and attract philanthropy. Projects and programs could include building engagement opportunities for both external (alumni, donors, parents) and internal (faculty, staff, students) stakeholders, assisting in the exploration and assessment of new academic programs, and/or advancing operations for the school. Projects and programs may include live or virtual events, process improvement, marketing strategies and/or proposal development.

Regular duties will include identifying and gathering stakeholders; capturing and managing project risks, action items, issues, and key decisions throughout the project lifecycle; providing status reports and assisting in developing the strategy and roadmap for the project.

This role will have regular contact with campus leaders, directors, faculty, and staff.

Responsibilities:

Coordinates management of multiple related projects and/or ongoing operations, which are directed toward a common objective. Monitors the cost, schedule, and performance of component projects and operations while working to ensure the ultimate success of the program.

  • 20% Creates a program plan and structure, monitors progress and performance against the program plan, and identifies, resolves, or escalates program risks and issues
  • 10% Leads and manages efforts to determine and coordinate the sharing of resources among component projects to the overall benefit of the program
  • 10% Manages the activities of outside contractors and vendors to ensure they are integrated into the program and that the organization receives satisfactory standards of service
  • 20% Facilitates the estimation of program costs, resources, and time required to complete the overall program, monitors activities and budgets, directs and leads component project manager activities for consistency and alignment, and works with program leadership to ensure these targets are met. Follows established change control processes if targets can no longer be met
  • 10% Prepares regular reports to communicate the status of the program within and beyond the program team, communicates program goals, risks, and status with program executive level, program sponsors, and stakeholders, and develops and uses appropriate dashboards, measures, and reporting tools
  • 10% Sets priorities, allocates tasks, and collaborates with project staff to meet program targets and milestones. Manages the change control process and acts as the mid-level decision making authority
  • 10% Plans and directs implementation of advancement initiatives and programs in alignment with the strategic plan
  • 5% Collaborates with unit leadership to deliver directed program messaging to internal and external audiences
  • 5% Facilitates stakeholder meetings including agenda development, logistics management, and communications

Education:

Qualifications:

Required
– Five or more years of project management or related experience leading and developing initiatives
– Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and accuracy
– Excellent presentation and oral/written communication skills
– Ability to prioritize, coordinate, work independently, and reliably follow through on a wide variety of activities and tasks
– Ability to recognize and solve problems, meet deadlines, and make independent decisions as appropriate
– Experience managing and adhering to budgetary guidelines

Preferred:
– Previous experience in higher education specializing in alumni relations, fundraising, administrative, operations, or similar
– Experience leading large-scale or high-profile initiatives

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Minimum $85,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The typical starting salary for this position is $85,000 – $121,000 depending on qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $85,000 – $157,600. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and paid time off; competitive insurances and saving accounts; and retirement benefits.
