The Design Department
The Design Department at Extensiv exists to help drive the user experience vision, strategy, and execution for our various products. Designers work across multiple project teams and are often tasked with juggling priorities. Designers report to the Director of Design and Content.
What you will do:
- Product strategy: Provide substantial input on project requirements and have excellent judgement on how to break complex tasks up and tackle them efficiently and effectively.
- Research: Define when research is needed and lead the execution. Create scripts, recruit, schedule, facilitate, and present high-level findings to peers and stakeholders. Incorporate insights into design decisions to fulfill user and business needs.
- Deliverables: Create deliverables for the project teams you support (for example: heuristic evaluations, competitive evaluations, low fidelity wireframes, high fidelity mockups including design for our various breakpoints, and prototypes) that help define the vision and execution of solving our users’ problems.
- UI Copy: Comfortable writing effective UI copy. Strong desire to work with our content team to help define our UI copy guidelines.
- Design system: Help build out our design system including documenting usage guidelines, responsive layout grids, and working with engineers to ensure alignment and compliance.
- Usability: Proactively identify both small and large usability issues within your teams and work with the Product Managers to help prioritize improvements.
- Communication: Succinctly and with a strong point of view you can easily explain your rationale for design decisions within a larger context such as: customer feedback, business objectives, usability, scalability, accessibility, and technical constraints.
- Collaboration: Work with a diverse team of technical writers, product managers, developers, marketing specialists, and other product designers, to create a simple, consistent, learnable, and inclusive experience. You should be comfortable organizing and leading workshops, design sprints, and other forms of collaborative problem-solving.
- Impact: Ship work regularly, understand its impact on the business and articulate it to a broader group. Easily meet project deadlines, occasionally delivering ahead of schedule.
- Leveling up Others: Offer suggestions for improvements to design team processes and rituals and take the reins to help implement them. Seek opportunities to help others – offer assistance outside your standard set of projects.
- Independence: Self-sufficient and motivated to get things done on your own. Able to “unblock” yourself to never be stalled or idle.
