Staff Accountant – Fully Remote

Who We’re Hiring:

We are seeking an experienced Staff Accountant. The staff accountant’s responsibilities include maintaining financial records and reports, performing account reconciliations, assisting with budget and close processes, conducting internal audits, maintaining accounts payable documentation, and working with clients to maintain timely receivables. You will also be assisting the CFO as needed and respond to information requests by management and for auditing purposes.

To be successful as our staff accountant, you should be able to accurately maintain a general ledger and ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

This is a fully remote position where you can work from home and have a tremendous positive impact on behalf of elderly and medically challenged people.

Success in this position will require exceptional communication skills, creative problem solving, and the ability to identify patterns that allow us to improve the service we offer.

This is a fully remote position with preference for Central Florida candidates.

Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Performs general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization.
  • Prepares monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
  • Maintains the general ledger.
  • Codes invoices to the general ledger, maintains the chart of accounts, maintains balance sheet roll-forward schedules, and closes the books monthly.
  • Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
  • Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; manages accounts receivable collections.
  • Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
  • Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents in support of the annual audit.
  • Files tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies. Supports third-party tax firm.
  • Coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software systems; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
  • Manages the purchasing and invoicing system.
  • Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or related field, required.
  • At least three to five years of related experience required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Ability to correctly prepare tax reports.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Proficient with Quickbooks.
  • Attention to detail and a drive to see projects through to completion with quality.
  • Creativity and ability to think outside the box.
  • Willingness and ability to work on and support a remote team environment.
  • A sense of humor and positive attitude.
