Staff Accountant – Housing Programs

Salary: $28.85 hourly nonexempt

This is a temporary short-term position with end date and will be 1 year from the date of hire with the possibility of an extension.

Location: Candidates must reside in California (prefer Los Angeles or San Francisco Area), position is primarily remote with occasional in-office requirements.

WHO ARE WE?

Founded in 2004, Brilliant Corners provides innovative housing and housing-related services to California’s most vulnerable individuals, with an emphasis on those transitioning from, or at risk of, homelessness or institutionalization. We develop, own, and manage multi-family supportive housing and licensed residential care homes. We implement a broad array of scattered-site, one-on-one supportive housing, and clinical case management programs through partnerships with developmental services, homeless services, veterans’ services, and health care sectors.

As Brilliant Corners has been deemed an Essential Service, Housing Coordinators will be expected to travel throughout Los Angeles County, meet in person with Program Participants, Case Managers/Workers from Partner Agencies as well as Property Managers. Brilliant Corners will provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all employees providing these essential services.

WHAT IS A STAFF ACCOUNTANT?

We are looking for a Staff Accountant-Housing Programs to join our dynamic Accounting/Finance team. The Staff Accountant is part of the finance team and should be organized, detail-oriented, resourceful and motivated individual. This position requires experience in the areas of accounts payable, data entry, and problem-solving. Primary responsibilities include entering high volume vendor payments, applying payments to the appropriate program and accounts, and resolving errors as they arise.

The Staff Accountant will report to the Accounting Supervisor and work closely with a team of accountants. The Staff Accountant is required to maintain a collaborative working relationship with BC personnel. Ensures timely financial obligations by reviewing payments and approvals.

Brilliant Corners seeks a highly qualified and motivated individual to be part of the accounting services team of a rapidly growing nonprofit managing a diverse array of government-funded supportive housing properties and service programs. This position supports the Accounting Manager and Accounting Supervisor in carrying out the responsibilities of the department.

The Staff Accountant will report directly to the Accounting Manager and will work closely with a team of Staff Accountants. The candidate is required to maintain a collaborative working relationship with Brilliant Corners Leadership and other related personnel. Successful performance of the work requires considerable knowledge of governmental accounting principles as well as GAAP and the ability to exercise sound independent judgment within established guidelines.

Responsibilities
• Assist the invoicing team in Flexible Housing Subsidy Pool (FHSP), Housing Program Unit (HPU), and CalAIMs in preparing timely program invoicing.
• Assist with credit card reconciliations.
• Assist with Amazon transactions as it relates to HPU/FHSP program.
• Assist the Finance Team with Quarterly external audit preparation.
• Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
• Audit monthly invoices to create a list of transactions that need reclassification in our accounting system.
• Prepare and submit the Measure H Monthly Reports.
• Create program billing summary to provide to our funders.
• Perform month-end close reviews to assist Finance Team.
• Provide reporting support to ensure timely submission of invoice reimbursement.
• Review and complete monthly client level expenditure reports. • Use Salesforce to confirm client expenses are billed to the correct funding sources.
• Other assigned tasks as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough understanding of GAAP requirements.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented yet able to look at the whole picture to meet deadlines
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple priorities and function independently and as a team member.
  • Understanding of concepts, principles, and practices of funding agency relations and compliance requirements as well as donor expectations regarding gift stewardship.
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel, databases, etc).
  • Sensitivity to homeless people and the issues of homelessness and recovery, and ability to work with people from diverse educational and personal backgrounds.
  • Sage Intacct Accounting Software Knowledge (Preferred not required)
  • Salesforce Knowledge (Preferred not required)

Salary range for this position is $28.72 – $32.34 hourly. This position is being offered at $28.85 hourly non-exempt.
