POSITION SUMMARY:
The non CDL Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of elementary, middle and high school students, including students with special needs on regular routes, excursions and athletic trips.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Safely transport students to and from school, activities and special events. Manage student behavior and build positive relationships while driving and following all applicable Colorado Department of Education (CDE), district, local, State and Federal laws, regulations and policies.
  • Safely Operate vehicles in various weather conditions.
  • Follow route directions, coordinate and maintain accurate descriptions of stop locations and times with departmental schedulers.
  • Regulate heating, lighting and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
  • Maintain student conduct that ensures the safety of all students.
  • Issue written discipline reports as needed.
  • Perform pre and post route safety inspections on assigned vehicles.
  • Report all delays, accidents/incidents immediately to transportation management or appropriate authorities.
  • Monitor passengers for medical and behavioral problems.
  • Administer first aid and provide written reports as required.
  • Aid in loading and unloading passengers via the stairs, including securing mobility aids, oxygen bottles, or student luggage. Ensure restraints suchs as safety vests, seat belts, Child Safety Restraint Systems (CSRS), or other restraining devices are properly secured.
  • Collaborate with supervisor or designee to accommodate requested route changes, concerns, or special requests.
  • Train passengers on proper emergency procedures in the event of an emergency.
  • Establish student, staff and parental rapport that allows for a proactive response to potential problems.
  • Actively participate in meetings, in-service, and other required training.
  • Apply and implement knowledge, skills and new understandings to support Operations, Maintenance and Transportation
  • Maintain all required licenses , First Aid/CPR certificates and pass annual department tests to be eligible to drive a school bus, in accordance with all Colorado Department of Education (CDE)
  • Provide assistance on buses with students with special needs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities; this position is responsible for supervising passenger conduct in district vehicles.

BUDGET AND/OR RESOURCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain accurate records in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines, and school system policy.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Bilingual (preferred)
Five (5) years of experience operating a motor vehicle.
Bus driving experience (preferred)

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
High School Graduate or equivalent
Valid Colorado Driver’s License.
Must maintain driving record that meets the standards of the District insurance policy.
Must pass physical exam (DOT) within 5 days of hire.
Must pass a pre-employment drug test and subject to random/post-accident/reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing
Current First Aid and CPR (or obtained within the first ninety days of employment).

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Occasional walking
Frequent lifting ten (10) to twenty (20) pounds.
Occasional lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds.
Frequent sitting, bending, walking, standing, stooping, kneeling squatting, and reaching.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

SALARY:
Starting wage: $19.29-31.22 per hour, depending on comparable xperience

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
New hires or rehires will be responsible for the $49.50 fingerprint processing fee required for background checks through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
