At Allstate Protection Plans (APP) / SquareTrade, our Intern, Tech Writer takes what’s in people’s heads and turns it into documentation that helps us help our Customers. As we continue to grow, we need our world documented to see where we’ve been so we know where we need to go.
Job Description
Our Technical Writer needs to know how to dig for information. This digging includes:
- Reviewing existing documentation in Jira, Confluence, among other systems & sources
- Interviewing subject matter experts on what they know. These SMEs can include, but aren’t limited to:
- Specialists
- Managers
- Senior leaders
Our Technical Writer will then need to take their research and turn it into helpful documentation.
What you’ll do
- Write high-quality process and procedure documentation resources, providing:
- Valuable information and guidance for our employees, and
- Material that successfully meets various regulatory and legal requirements.
- Collaborate closely with Product Management and Customer Experience to improve our processes and procedures
- Ensure that documentation applies consistent voice and style with all other APP documentation
Qualifications
- Familiarity and comfort in technical writing, especially in process / procedural documentation, experience preferred
- Intrigued by analyzing process / procedure documentation and improving it
- Strong collaboration and listening skills as well as written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to learn, research, and articulate technical concepts and translate these elements into compelling, user-facing documentation
- Experience in completing large projects in a limited amount of time
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or GSuite (Gmail, Docs, Sheets)
- Ability to work in group settings and/or independently
- Ability to prioritize and multitask across several projects
- Demonstrates creativity and innovation
- Candidate must be currently enrolled in a US based college or university degree program and also be enrolled in a US based college or university degree program for the Fall 2023 semester
- Candidate must be a rising junior or rising senior
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must have a minimum GPA of 2.7
- Must be available to start on internship cohort start date (June 5) and complete ten week program in the US
- Previous work/volunteer experience or relevant coursework in identified area(s) of interest
- Can work in the US without employment sponsorship
(California Only) Pursuant to applicable law, SquareTrade estimates the possible base pay for this role, if hired in California, to be within the following range: $24-$30 per hour.
