San Diego Superior Court is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Staff Attorney (Small Claims Legal Advisor).
There is currently one (1) vacancy.
The resulting eligible list from this recruitment will replace the existing list for any previous examination number, and may be used to fill current and subsequent Staff Attorney (Small Claims Legal Advisor) vacancies and/or positions.
Individuals who previously applied for Staff Attorney (Small Claims Legal Advisor) under any other Examination Number must re-apply in order to be considered.
Staff Attorneys (Small Claims Legal Advisor) may be assigned to work in any of the following court locations: Central Courthouse and/or Hall of Justice (downtown San Diego); North County Division (Vista); and/or Kearny Mesa.
JOB SUMMARY
Under general direction of a Supervising Attorney and the Legal Services Manager, typical duties of a Staff Attorney (Small Claims Legal Advisor) may include but are not limited to: providing one-on-one in- person, telephonic, and “live-chat” legal assistance to clientele of diverse cultural, educational and socio-economic backgrounds; reviewing documents in court’s register of actions and assisting small claims litigants in understanding those documents; conducting group presentations covering numerous aspects of the small claims legal process; performing judgment interest calculations using the court’s judgment calculator and explaining the calculations to the litigants; conducting independent research relating to substantive and procedural small claims issues.
The current position requires a strong civil background. Attorneys with experience in all areas of law are encouraged to apply to be considered for other types of future positions that might become available.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must be current active members in good standing with the State Bar of California and have at least two (2) years of full-time, professional experience as a licensed attorney.
