Burns & McDonnell is seeking to hire Staff Civil Designer(s) within our Energy Global Practice in our Denver, CO regional office!
Staff Civil Designer will perform various phases of planning, proposal preparation technical layout and exhibit production support, site plan evaluations and exhibits, analytical designs, report exhibit preparation production, and preparation of construction drawings and environmental drawings as part of a project team. This position will work on various projects with a diverse portfolio of project types with a focus on solar projects. Proficient understanding and utilization of design software such as: Autodesk’s AutoCAD and Civil 3D, Bentley’s MicroStation and Open Roads, along with Microsoft Office products to develop the design deliverables is required.
- Support and perform technical design for civil engineering related projects requiring site plans, grading plans, access roads, driveways, storm drainage systems, storm water management facilities, water and sanitary sewer utility design, gas, electrical and communication utility design, sediment and erosion control, and roadway traffic control, and existing or new facility site design.
- Develop drawings for production work including problem analysis, design layout and calculations on non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
- Execute variety of civil design assignments for site plans, grading plans and associated details using prescribed methods and standard techniques including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing various system components, and refining rough sketches.
- Execute changes to designs or sketches and mark-ups on ongoing projects.
- Analyze reports, maps, drawings, tests, and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design projects.
- Responsible for incorporating appropriate design codes and specifications related to design requirements meeting generally accepted practices for civil engineering design.
- Generate or review design drawings for quality assurance within communicated scope, budget, and schedule.
- Calculate and report volume calculations for excavation, dredging, and upland site grading.
- Responsible for revisions of project drawings, plot files and project-related information storage in a logical and well-structured manner in accordance with communicated client standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in drafting technology or related field and three to five years related experience or Associate’s degree and seven years related experience or ten years progressive detailing and design experience.
- Proficient understanding and utilization of industry design software which includes: Autodesk’s AutoCAD and Civil 3D, Bentley’s MicroStation and Open Roads, along with Microsoft Office products to develop, design and produce deliverables.
- Competent knowledge in design, calculations, and design systems.
- Competent knowledge in the theory and practices of civil discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the assigned discipline; and capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others (Project Managers, Engineers and Designers) in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.
- Proficient written & verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail and quality focused.
Compensation Range:
$100,000 – $145,000
The expected salary range for this position is displayed in accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
