The Health & Counseling Center (HCC) is a fully integrated, on-campus, accredited college health center that provides a wide range of medical and mental health, advocacy and prevention services. This position works in the Counseling unit at the HCC.
The mission of the HCC is to enhance overall student well-being and success through inclusive physical and mental healthcare, prevention, education, advocacy, and recovery support services. Most shifts are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with occasional shifts from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. Physicians, nurses, psychologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other health professionals staff the HCC. All students enrolled for academic credit (full-time or part-time, undergraduate, or graduate) may use the HCC.

Position Summary
This posting is for a full-time staff counselor/coordinator of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. The coordinator of diversity, equity and inclusion is a member of the Counseling Services senior staff at the University of Denver’s Health and Counseling Center (HCC) and provides direct counseling/psychotherapy, outreach/prevention, and crisis intervention services to DU students. This position has a particular emphasis on increasing the quantity and quality of services provided by Counseling Services to historically underrepresented populations on campus, specifically those who identify as ethnic or racial minorities or who may otherwise belong to historically marginalized populations. This position will facilitate trainings and teach seminars on culturally competent clinical services and power and privilege dynamics, as well as guide our consultation and outreach efforts to lower stigma and improve access for historically under-represented students. This position works within an integrated care model at the HCC including primary care, mental health, advocacy, and health promotion. This is a full-time, benefited, 40 hour per week position and reports to the Director of Counseling Services. The position requires some evening clinic hours until 7 pm (one night a week, one to two quarters per year) and attendance at occasional evening outreach events.
Essential Functions
- Provides direct clinical services including intakes, individual, couples, crisis intervention and group psychotherapy to DU students, staff and faculty.
- Develops and implements outreach and educational programs for the campus community that dovetail with the broader initiatives within Student Life and Inclusive Excellence related to inclusivity, diversity and equity initiatives, with a focus on members of historically marginalized populations.
- Develop partnerships with campus organizations and affinity groups that address the needs of underserved and minority populations.
- Coordinates and teaches trainings and trainee seminars and provides consultation to the HCC staff around diversity, inclusion and equity.
- Provides crisis intervention services via both our daytime crisis system (Counselor of the Day and Crisis Time coverage) and back-up coverage for after-hours services.
- Participates in Intern/Trainee recruitment.
- Serve on the HCC’s Equity and Social Justice Collective (ESJC).
- Provides consultation and teaching services as assigned.
- Assists with research activities within the Counseling Center as assigned.
- Maintains client records in a timely manner and according to Counseling Center.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse and marginalized populations.
- Experience providing clinical services (groups/individual counseling) to marginalized populations.
- Demonstrated experience with supervision, crisis intervention, outreach/prevention, groups.
- Demonstrated commitment to the principles of Inclusive Excellence.
Required Qualifications
- Doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, or Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW).
- Licensed or license-eligible within three months of hire in the State of Colorado as a licensed psychologist or Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology.
- Teaching/Facilitation experience.
- Experience in working with a multi-disciplinary team.
- 24 months of experience in university/college counseling center.
- Bi-lingual or multilingual.
Working Environment
Standard office environment, unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high, noise level is quiet to moderate.
Physical Activities
Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period of time, occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.
Work Schedule
This position requires employees to work onsite 8:00am-5:00pm with rare weekends, evenings and holidays. Full-time staff in good standing are eligible to work remotely one day per week, as schedules allow.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 12.
Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $80,000-$90,000.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
