The Role
The Infrastructure Design team is looking for an Electrical Engineer to be a part of our team, supporting projects across the Bay Area in design development and execution of complex new and tenant improvement R&D facilities.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for developing electrical design packages for permitting and construction
- Review and develop designs that are cost effective, constructible, code compliant while meeting Tesla’s quality and schedule requirements
- Able to develop engineering cost estimates for projects in short time frames
- Work with various manufacturing, construction, and facilities stakeholders to understand end user needs and deliver results that meet the collective team’s needs
- Must be able to prioritize and manage heavy workload on multiple projects to ensure high quality and productivity
- Resolving design issues creatively and thoroughly coordinating design with other disciplines
- Assist with development of Scope of Work, Basis of Design, and Sequence of Operation documents
- Ability to get hands dirty and work on the lines to understand fundamental problems
Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or the equivalent and the evidence of exceptional ability
• Minimum of 10 years electrical distribution design including 480V systems and below. Well versed in the National Electric Code
• Skilled in detailed design of Medium Voltage and Low Voltage power distribution equipment including switchgear, substations, and circuit breakers
• California PE registration required
• Ability to complete short circuit analysis and AC Load studies – Proficient with SKM Power Tools
• Competency in the following software tools: Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Revit, BIM 360, Navisworks
• Construction Administration experience including site observation visits and review of RFIs, and shop drawings
• Direct experience in the preparation of electrical permit drawings and engineering specifications
• Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for 10+ hours per day, wear air purifying respirator as needed for specific tasks
• Understanding and familiarity with calculating, sizing and selecting electrical equipment/distribution/infrastructure. Including but not limited to: Commercial electrical low voltage transformers/panels/switchgear, electrical hazard classification, medium voltage electrical gear, PV/Solar & Battery storage systems

- Expected Compensation
$92,000 – $300,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
