Founded in 2009 as a forum for playful, serious, and radical perspectives on art in society, Hyperallergic combines art world news coverage with insightful commentary to reach an influential audience of over one million readers a month.
Hyperallergic is seeking a full-time Staff Reporter to join our growing team in Brooklyn, NY. The ideal candidate is a rigorous, well-informed observer of the arts who is able to write succinctly for a general audience, has an active social media presence, and can write on a diverse array of topics in different article formats, from thoroughly researched features to lighthearted articles about meme culture and emojis.
The Staff Reporter will be expected to:
- Proactively pitch news and analysis daily, sourcing stories from online sources (TikTok, etc.) and their personal network
- Conduct research and write 1-2 articles daily on a tight deadline
- Attend and report on off-site events, including protests and other actions
- Report on a diverse range of topics, including arts activism, international current events, archaeological discoveries, and more
- Help cultivate Hyperallergic’s audience on social media and beyond
This position is based out of our Brooklyn, NY office.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in art writing and journalism
- Exceptional writing and copy-editing skills
- Ethical judgment
- The ability to work collaboratively on a team, with generosity and a sense of humor
- Familiarity or engagement with the local art community
- An understanding of Hyperallergic’s mission and values

Salary range: $52,000-$65,000/year (Based on experience)
