Developmental Intern (Distributed Energy Resources)

Our paid Summer Developmental Internship, running from June 5 – August 4, is a 9-week program that may a hybrid of virtual and in-person experiences. As an Intern, you will receive professional development, on-the job experience in the energy industry, exposure to executives, and networking opportunities to help build a solid foundation for your future career.

Project Specifics:

This role will focus on all aspects of the projects from economic feasibility including bill analysis to assess the viability of a project site by utilizing the respective utilities hosting capacity map, NYS DEC environmental mapper, and create a potential design of the PV system. You will have the opportunity to attend all project meetings to gain insight and exposure to all stakeholders and the work that goes into developing a clean energy project. The main customer focus will be higher education along with municipalities and other State agencies. As a member of the DER team, you will work on all aspects of the project helping to lead it to its successful implementation, contributing to the NYS clean energy goals, the customer’s goals, and NYPA’s goals.

The Summer Developmental Intern program is ideal for a college or graduate level student interested in:

  • Exploring how hydropower, energy efficiency, electric vehicles and various exciting initiatives at NYPA are changing the power industry
  • Seeing firsthand what it’s like to work for New York State
  • Learning about NYPA’s commitment to New York State citizens and the communities where our generation facilities are located
  • Learning about our various energy sites to see how our power is made and how important it is to provide reliable electricity in New York
  • Gaining a foundation on the energy regulations that govern our industry

Internships will be ideal for students pursuing degrees in the following disciplines:

  • Engineering
  • Information Technology
  • Data Science
  • Environmental Science

Responsibilities

  • Participate in department-specific projects, analysis, research methods and learn project management skills
  • Develop business solutions that support the delivery of NYPA’s VISION2030
  • Participate in a cross-functional team project
  • Research and provide insight on industry best practices
  • Other duties as assigned; will vary based on area of interest

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task with competing priorities
  • Collaborative and team player
  • Customer-focused

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Must be matriculated in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited institution at the time of application
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States for the duration of the internship
  • Be available on the designated start date on June 5th

Physical Requirements
