Description

JOB STATEMENT: The State Sales Manager (SSM) is a sales leadership position responsible for an assigned State. The SSM manages distributor performance, business development, and profitability goals in the three-tier alcoholic beverage distribution model.

Essential Duties:

  • Review monthly performance and program status with District / Key Account Managers
  • Monitor key state activities and facilitate internal and external communications
  • Organize the use of Chain Planning Calendars with distributors
  • Conduct weekly update calls with distributors to determine status and opportunities
  • Approve Depletion Allowance / Billbacks and forward to Zone Manager
  • Review post-analysis provided from District/Key Account Managers and address opportunities
  • Conduct monthly meetings with distributor market leadership
  • Analyze sales programs at the State level and identify opportunities
  • ‘Days in the Trade’ expectation is 3-4 days per week
  • Develop and maintain 90 day forecast for assigned State
  • Review budget tracker with Zone/Regional Manager
  • Maintain regional Scorecard
  • Conduct monthly performance updates with distributor senior leadership
  • Conduct one-to-one meetings with supervisor and District/Key Account Managers
  • Lead and organize Quarterly Business Review meetings with distributors at the State level
  • Complete formal state level surveys with key distributors and document appropriate next steps
  • Utilize technology provided to conduct business in an efficient manner

Qualifications

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • 6+ years of wine industry sales management experience as a District Sales Manager or equivalent
  • General Alcohol and Beverage experience highly preferred

Knowledge of:

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and self-motivational skills
  • High level of integrity, confidence
  • Wine knowledgeable, from the vineyard to the table

Ability to:

  • Possess a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, reliable transportation, and be able to meet the company’s insurance requirements
  • Forge strong professional relationships in short timeframes

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Sit for an extensive period of time
  • Lift occasionally (office materials, wine boxes)
  • Perform tasks using standard computer equipment

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Indoor climate
  • Limited noise levels

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

  • Side shield safety glasses, safety vest, head/ear protection and proper footwear when in production facility
