Stationary Engineer 1 (Boiler Operator)

**Please note this position may require you to work 1st, 2nd and 3rd shift, which includes nights, holidays and weekends.**

JOB DETAILS:

  • Hourly Pay: Up to $24.71
  • This does not include overtime opportunities or shift differential pay!
  • Shift differential pay for 2nd and 3rd shift (additional $.60 per hour)

  • OPERS retirement – The employee contributes 10% of their salary towards their retirement. The employer contributes an amount equal to 14% of the employee’s salary.

The Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky is a 427-bed nursing home facility. Two levels of care are offered: standard care for those veterans in need of any intermediate level of care, and special care for veterans with Memory Care needs.

The Home opened in 1888 to care for veterans of the Civil War and has been in continuous operation since. We pride ourselves in providing superior care to Ohio’s veterans.

  • Possesses a 1st, 2nd or 3rd Class Stationary Steam Engineer license
  • Is highly motivated in performing job duties

  • Is able to work alone on most tasks
  • Is well versed in safety practices in Boiler Operation
  • Is willing to work a flexible schedule, when needed
  • Has the ability to understand manuals & verbal instruction
  • Is flexible, proactive, resourceful, efficient, and professional

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Operates, maintains, adjusts, repairs & observes operation of powerhouse equipment (e.g., boilers, turbines, blowers, flow meters, various pumps, feed water heaters, generators, fans, fan motors, air compressors, pollution control equipment).
  • Makes rounds of powerhouse (e.g., reads numerous gauges & regulators; checks power consumption meters & switches; starts, synchronizes, switches & stops generators or turbines as needed; checks equipment for proper functioning)
  • Performs steam fitting & plumbing duties as related to boiler maintenance; assists with major repairs; assists in preparing powerhouse equipment for inspection; cleans powerhouse & all equipment as needed.
  • Keeps powerhouse log recording gauge readings, power generated, maintenance work performed & all other related records; performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Must possess 1st, 2nd or 3rd Class Stationary Steam Engineer licensure appropriate for type of boiler operation pursuant to Ohio Revised Code section 4104.19.
