Stock Clerk – Naval Medical Center Portsmouth

PCSI is looking for a Stock Clerk at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. The Stock Clerk maintains the inventory system of supplies and equipment for the housekeeping team. They are responsible for ordering, inspecting, organizing, and replenishing inventory, as well as maintaining inventory records and purchase logs. The Stock Clerk needs to have strong communication skills and attention to detail to request and research cost information from vendors and arrange for and ensure timely and accurate delivery.

This position is based out of the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA and reports to the Housekeeping Manager.

Base Pay: $18.11/hr

Shifts Available:

  • Monday-Friday, 6:00am-3:00pm
  • Monday-Friday, 3:00pm-12:00am

What You’ll Do as a Stock Clerk:

  • Material ordering, to include tracking product information to keep supply chains on schedule.
  • Scheduling, recordkeeping, and inventory control.
  • Counts and sorts, incoming supplies to verify receipt of items on requisition or invoice.
  • Examines stock to verify conformance to specifications. Prepares periodic, special, or perpetual stock orders.
  • Inspect, inventory, and replenish supplies and equipment in housekeeping closets throughout NMCP hospital buildings and outlying clinics, as necessary.
  • Compiles reports on use of stock, adjustments of inventory count and stock records, spoilage or damage to stock, location changes, and refusal of shipments.
  • Follows procedures for maintaining high standards of quality and reliability of the company inventory system.
  • Follows inventory control requirements relating to suppliers to meet real customer internal and external needs.
  • Organizes supply storerooms in the most efficient and effective manner using principles of LEAN.
  • Directly responsible for implementing and maintenance of the company inventory system; also, to maintain a variety of logs and records relating to the purchase of materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Requests and prepares cost estimates; checks cost of materials; calls vendors for material cost, availability, quantities, and other information; researches various catalogs and orders parts, materials, and equipment; receives and stores materials and tools.
  • Arranges for delivery, assembly, or distribution of supplies or parts to expedite flow of materials and meet production schedules.
  • Compiles and maintains material and parts inventory list and provides status information to expedite movement of material and parts.
  • Locates and distributes materials to specified production areas, and technicians manually or using handcart, hand truck or pallet jack (manual or motorized)
  • Compiles and maintains records, such as material inventory records, parts received, stocked, and distributed parts including piece part records, manually or using a computer.
  • Examines material received, verifies part numbers, and checks discrepancies, such as damaged or unmarked parts.
  • Answers incoming calls, and maintains files and records, including purchase orders and related records.
  • May drive company vehicle to outlying work areas to check status of orders or to deliver / pick-up materials.

What You’ll Need to Be Successful:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum one (1) year logistics/supply experience.
  • Requires knowledge of and operation of windows applications, to include MS Office and Outlook email.
  • Knowledge of MSDS, safety procedures and workplace hazards.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Analytical ability to define or recognize problems, to collect data, and take or recommend action based on established guidelines.
  • Self-starter, able to work with minimal direction and supervision.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle, pushcart, pallet jack (manual and motorized).
  • Ability to operate Environmental Services equipment including floor buffers, steam cleaners, vacuums, mops, and brooms.
  • Ability to stand and walk the entire hospital complex 90 percent of the time during normal working hours, five days per week and 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to climb up and down ladders and stairs.
  • Ability to interpret policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Mathematic skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide, percentages.
  • Ability to read, write and understand container labels, product information, directions on cleaning chemicals and equipment maintenance procedures.

Other Requirements:

  • Pass criminal, drug, and driving screening.
  • Must obtain and maintain security clearance for military base access.
  • May work outside in inclement weather as needed and be exposed to various dirt, debris, and odors.
  • Subject to hazards associated with working in a health care environment that may cause personal harm; diseases, cuts, bruises, burns, common colds, influenza, and elevated noise levels.
  • May work in aseptic areas and be exposed to various chemicals and infectious diseases.
  • Possess valid driver’s license and maintain good driving record.
