GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This incumbent will assist the Erosion Control Supervisor with administering the Sedimentation and Erosion sections of the Durham City-County Unified Development Ordinance. This position provides technical expertise in erosion control and active construction site erosion control compliance. Work includes reviewing erosion control plans, processing and tracking of documentation for regulatory compliance, issuance of land disturbance approval and permit, site inspections, complaint investigation, and perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Some knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering including design of erosion control measures and associated infrastructure as well as drainage design methods and construction.
- Some knowledge of theory and practice of design, construction, and surveying, as well as stormwater quality management practices.
- Some knowledge of water quality environmental laws and regulations and State and Federal erosion control standards.
- Skill with computer technology related to the position including MS Office software.
- Ability to prepare and present accurate and reliable reports containing findings and recommendations to a wide variety of target audiences.
- Ability to maintain detailed records and reports and to read and understand state and federal regulations, technical materials, and requirements.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical terminology.
- Ability to establish, foster, and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external employees and clients.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from technical institute or community college with major work in Engineering Technology and some experience in engineering and drafting work.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license with a three-year acceptable driving record.
PREFEERED QUALIFICATIONS
Certification as a NCDEQ BMP Reviewer, NCDOT Level 1, II, or III Erosion and Sediment Control Certification, or related.
