Position Description
Position Overview
The Equipment Operator is responsible for operating various equipment including; motor grader, mini grader, loader, excavator, compactor, backhoe, or other pieces of equipment as needed on our Grade Crew. The Equipment Operator places and finishes base on roadways, parking lots, highways and driveways for asphalt and concrete paving. The Equipment Operator also may dig and install drywells, may prepare grades for concrete curbing and sidewalk. The Equipment Operator may participate in other activities, including labor, preparing various surfaces for asphalt paving.
Starting Wage Range: $19-$22/hr DOE w/ potential for overtime.
Wage Scale for Position: $20-$26/hr DOE w/ potential for overtime.
Note: Wage scale for position is the full wage scale an individual can make based on performance, experience, and seniority throughout their time at the company.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Operate equipment in a safe and professional manner at various job site locations
- Use equipment to grade terrain
- Maintain equipment in a safe and clean condition
- Perform pre and post shift inspection of equipment
- Check fluid levels, tires/tracks, lights, and other controls for safe operation
- Fuels equipment
- Checks necessary equipment parts to ensure proper function of equipment
- Informs service technician of any maintenance or repairs needed
- Must have basic knowledge of grade and pave operations
- Routinely assist other members of the work force in different areas of production
- May assist with general labor and maintenance tasks
- Promptly communicate with supervisors on any flaws in material.
- Take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions.
- Other tasks and duties as assigned to meet business needs.
- Regular and timely attendance.
- Participate in and promote an inclusive work environment.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Safety minded professional who demonstrates good performance, attendance and punctuality.
- Must pass pre-employment physical exam and pre-employment controlled substance testing.
- Demonstrates the ability to work overtime and weekends/holidays as needed.
- Demonstrates the ability to conform to and maintain OSHA, MSHA, DOT and all other company or state rules and regulations.
- Must have current US Authorization to work or ability to obtain without company assistance prior to start date.
Education/Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
- Previous heavy equipment operation and training required
- Previous finish grade work with motor grader highly preferred
- Previous asphalt grade/pave operations and/or construction related experience highly preferred.
Work Requirements
- Safety minded professional who demonstrates good performance, attendance and punctuality.
- Demonstrates the ability to work independently, without direct supervision.
- Demonstrates the willingness to work overtime and weekends/holidays.
- Demonstrates the willingness to learn and work a variety of job tasks.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Class A CDL with self-certification of non-excepted interstate and current DOT medical card preferred.
- Must pass DOT physical exam and pre-employment controlled substance testing.
