Position Overview
Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering has an immediate opening for a dynamic Stream Design Engineer in our growing Design Engineering Services (DES) Group. The Stream Design Engineer will perform hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, design, and construction support on an interdisciplinary team including: geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, roadway engineers, environmental scientists, estimators, schedulers and construction experts to perform engineering analysis, design, and estimates in support of design-build pursuits and ongoing projects. You will be part of our rapidly growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes structural, geotechnical, civil, drainage, roadway, rail/transit and systems, and materials disciplines and is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the design-build delivery of infrastructure projects in Washington and beyond.
District Overview
Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering Group’s Design Build Management Team are attracting clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of design-build projects to manage their multi-disciplined design teams to improve schedule, control costs and minimize risk. Our construction-driven engineers analyze root causes and resolve design issues before they impact schedule and budget. Given the inherent size and risk profile of large design build projects, clients benefit from the proven processes and tools used by Kiewit to minimize project risk. We are an in-house resource that supports projects throughout North America. Location
This position is based out of either our Bellevue, Federal Way or Seattle, WA location with up to 25% travel as business necessitates.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include determining stream flows and tidal effect, stream restoration with large woody material (LWM) placement with and without anchor systems design, stream or river embankment stabilization, floodplain analysis, geomorphology, zero rise analysis, scour analysis, streambed material design, backwater analysis, and estuary design.
• Develops advance solutions to complex issues.
• Proactively identifies gaps in design and provides solutions.
• Develops major project or proposal with minimal supervision.
• Supports major project/proposal pursuits.
• Reviews and corrects the work of engineers and designers to develop documents as needed.
• Resolves conflicting requirements and approaches across discipline lines as needed.
• Assists others to structure and solve technical issues.
• Improves existing processes by using different approaches/methods.
• Generates multiple alternatives before settling on a solution.
• Develops creative solutions to complex problems.
• Collaborates with others to determine best solution internally and externally.
• Serves as Kiewit representative in external organization and committees.
• Identifies changes in scope of work during a large project and produces documents to stay within budget and schedule.
• Generates new ways of thinking about and solving problems.
• Leads quality check of engineering and design of major projects to ensure accuracy.
• Sets the example for exceptional performance.
• Leads hydraulic design task force meetings.
• Leads a stream team that consists of engineers, geomorphologists, and biologist from Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering Group and third-party design firms.
• Serves as a mentor to young engineers and technical staff.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and /or Environmental Engineering minimum required.
- Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Washington is required.
- 4+ years minimum relevant experience in stream grading, stream restoration with LWM placement with and without anchor system design; embankment stabilization, flood plain analysis. geomorphology, zero rise analysis, scour analysis, streambed material designing, backwater analysis, and estuary design.
- Hydrology and hydraluic specialty design is required.
- Supported a minimum of one sestuary design projects in the past years.
- Experience with at least one fish passage project for WSDOT in past year.
- Experience and current knowledge of procedures for scour analysis as recommended by FHWA.
- Travel <25% expected.
- Communicates effectively across all levels of organization.
- Works collaboratively across departments and involves others in solving problems. Initiates meetings within own team, other disciplines or internal customers for clarity on work.
- Serves as technical resouce to projects and estimating.
- Advises and provides perspectives froma variety of sources internally and externally to solve problems.

Base Compensation: $113,000 – $135,000
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
