General Purpose

Student Engineer will assist in performing system engineering studies, and providing real-time and planning engineering support to ensure increased reliability and performance to company transmission and distribution systems. This position will support System Operations plans, specifications, calculations, design documents, and performance assessments associated with system coordination, planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the company’s transmission and distribution systems.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes engineering analyses to planning and response efforts for system outages; works with System Operations team to solve daily and forecasted issues and contingencies; reviews outage reports daily for accuracy and develops solutions to mitigate similar future outages for straightforward issues.
  • Develop moderate to complex engineering studies with the support of system staff, at the possibility of limited scope, and prepare data for analysis and operation.
  • Perform system data analysis and present results to department company staff.
  • Conduct drawing reviews to ensure adherence to company and industry standards.
  • Research and test equipment, operations, software and applications provided by suppliers.
  • Assists in updates of company standards, policies, operating procedures, and drawings.
  • Analyze and enhance system operation, design, programming, and modification.
  • Support designing and implementing solutions to optimize the operation the company’s transmission and distribution systems.
  • Support strategies to increase operational reliability and performance, improve operational business processes, reduce costs, and increase customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled full time at an accredited College or University.
  • Sophomore standing or higher in electrical/mechanical/civil engineering or a related field.
  • Ability to interact favorably with department personnel and work teams.
  • Proficient with the use of personal computers and automated tools and systems.
  • Ability to work under pressure and communicate and problem solve in stressful situations.
  • Ability and willingness to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ability and willingness to work an average of 20 hours per week per calendar year.
  • Ability to respond and adapt to frequent change and challenges.
