Summary
This position is located at Office of Government Ethics, General Counsel and Legal Policy Division or Program Counsel Division. As a Student Trainee (Legal) (Legal Intern), you will support OGE’s work of establishing and maintaining a uniform legal framework of Government ethics for executive branch employees.

Duties
As a NTE Intern, your major duties may include:
- Research legal questions, issues, and cases to provide assigned attorneys information used to advise agency ethics officials and ethics counselors throughout the Executive Branch on a wide variety of topics of interest to the ethics community including: criminal statutes, implementing regulations, guidance, advice and policy on ethics related issues, guidance and implementing documents related to Executive Orders, supplemental regulations, and other legal areas such as Freedom of Information and Privacy Act.
- Prepare memorandum on ethics policy and advisory opinions, draft and comment on legislation and regulations, and formulate ethics and conflict of interest policy for the Executive Branch.
- Make presentations to attorneys within the Office of Government Ethics and other Federal agencies. Presentations may include topics such as the Ethics in Government Act, Standards of Ethical Conduct for Employees of the Executive Branch, the Freedom of Information Act, and the Privacy Act.
- As appropriate, the intern attends staff meetings, briefings, and formal and informal conferences in assigned areas with responsibility for writing draft summary reports and personal observations for the record.

Qualifications
The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Education
You MUST meet the definition of a STUDENT for the duration of your appointment. The definition of a student is: an individual accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis (as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled), including awardees of the Harry S. Truman Foundation Scholarship Program under Public Law 93-842. Students need not be in actual physical attendance, so long as all other requirements are met. An individual who needs to complete less than the equivalent of half an academic/vocational or technical course-load immediately prior to graduating is still considered a student for purposes of this Program.
An academic year of undergraduate education is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in an accredited college or university.
