Job Description:
This is a senior Technical Leadership position within the Power Delivery unit of Arcadis. The position requires candidate to work within a multi-disciplinary team for the design of substations. This individual will participate in substation design at all stages of project development, including concept, pre-feasibility, feasibility, detail design, procurement and construction, and also in substation asset management/condition studies. The Substation Electrical Lead will coordinate his/her design activities, with design activities undertaken by other engineering disciplines, to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion. They may take on project management roles, coordinating the activities of electrical, P&C/SCADA/Telecom, civil, structural and other engineering and non-engineering disciplines. Substation Electrical Lead will also lead/participate in the preparation of project estimates, engineering estimates and proposals, and client engagement and business development activities.
This position is accountable to provide design activities in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including all of Arcadis’s policies and procedures, such as Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance and Quality Control. The incumbent will also work closely with other Power Delivery departments, including the Substation Engineering, Transmission Engineering, Protection & Control Engineering, Distribution and EV Technology and the Renewables teams, as well as with other Arcadis divisions on related Substation and Switchyard Station and power sector master plans.
As the successful candidate, you will:
- Manager and grow Substation Electrical team and serve as a mentor to staff. You will also lead substation design on large/complex projects and perform quality reviews.
- Review/supervise calculations, drawings, specifications, and perform condition assessments and feasibility studies.
- Preparing of proposals (technical scope, level of effort and cost estimates).
- Preparation of project technical specifications for material and equipment purchase and installation.
- Design of electrical substation facilities including site and bus work layouts, ground grids
- Delivery of accurate and thorough designs that will meet industry standards and specifications and meet good engineering practice with excellent constructability.
- Review of internal and external designs for code compliance, good design practice and constructability.
- Resolving site queries, attending site meetings and performing site inspections during the construction phase of projects.
- Maintaining project documentation with respect to substation design and construction, including completion packages, as-built requirements and return data information.
- Preparation of functional specifications for facility requirements related to different system development portfolios, for purposes of developing preliminary designs and obtaining estimates for the associated facilities.
- Undertake thought leadership activities (e.g. speaker at conference, panelist, technical articles, whitepapers, etc.) and promote Arcadis’s know-how in the Power and T&D sector in the region.
- Maintaining close coordination with other relevant Arcadis Business Units and Practices for cross selling and cross staffing opportunities.
You bring to the role:
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in electrical engineering
- Minimum of 10-12 years of experience in direct Substation Electrical engineering & design in Power and Utility industry
- PE License certification is required.
- Familiarity with utility industry standards and practices to include NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI, and have advanced knowledge of Substation design practices related to physical electrical design development and relevant supporting calculations.
- Must have experience with key considerations for substation design including physical layouts and details, one lines, grounding, control building, lighting & lightning, etc.

We offer seven paid holidays and potentially up to two floating holidays per calendar year depending on start date, and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $116,000.00 – $200,000.00.
