Summary Description
Individuals interested in this position will complete daily tasks to prepare the softball fields at Walker Johnston Regional Park for complex rentals. A typical work day is 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday-Friday. Normal hours worked could be affected by inclement weather and possible weekend hours could be expected. Primary work location is 9000 Douglas Avenue, Urbandale but responsibilities could include the entire park system and City facilities, as needed. Anticipated season is through mid-October.
Routine Job Duties/Responsibilities
• Daily softball field preparation to include dragging, hand raking, chalking, and setting bases
• Mowing of outfields, trimming, edging of fence lines and grass/dirt transition areas
• Conducts frequent inspections of the fences, play areas and the entire complex looking for possible safety hazards
• Performs visual inspections daily of motorized equipment, checking oil levels, fueling, and alerting the Parks Maintenance Supervisor to any possible operation issues with equipment
• Removal of trash from the complex and light janitorial duties as required
• Assists with other park maintenance operations, as needed.
• Maintains the parks maintenance facility in a neat, orderly, and safe manner
• Ability to lift 75 lbs, bend over and kneel frequently
• Knowledge of the types and uses of common hand tools, materials, and equipment necessary to perform the basic functions of softball field maintenance
• Must wear Personal Protective Equipment appropriate for operation of powered equipment, safety glasses, ear protection, face shields, cover exposed skin, etc.
• Assures that all work performed relating to the daily operation of Walker Johnston Softball Complex meets the City’s standards for customer service, quality, and efficiency
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Typical Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Driver’s License also required.

The salary range listed includes pay steps based on length of service with the City if Urbandale therefore most employees are offered a starting salary closer to the minimum of the advertised range.
