Position Overview
The Supervisor- Aquatic Maintenance is responsible for the overall supervision, coordination, planning, direction and execution of the activities required to maintain and repair of aquatic facilities such as swimming pools, waterparks, aquatic centers, spraygrounds, and public interactive water features to ensure safe operation in accordance with state and local health standards in the City of Dallas Park and Recreation Department.
Essential Functions
Essential Job Functions
- Provides technical expertise to subordinate staff in the performance of all aquatic facility maintenance.
- Plans, coordinates, and assigns tasks to personnel and allocates resources such as equipment, vehicles, and materials to provide for the day to day maintenance and repair tasks needed at aquatic facilities.
- Oversees and assures the implementation of plans and schedules; determines goals and objectives needing emphasis.
- Implements the seasonal pool manager maintenance plan and conducts training.
- Organizes work priorities, projects schedules, resources, and workplans as required.
- Reviews work for quality; evaluates work performance; and recommends employees for awards.
- Researches, develops and implements methods to improve productivity or effectiveness and reduce costs.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support division activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience
- Six (6) years of experience in the aquatic facility maintenance industry and a minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience.
- Certificates and Licenses Required
- City of Dallas Manager of Pool Operations Certificate.
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certifications
- Ability to obtain certification in advanced pool systems such as UV system repair within 6 months of hire.
- Must have a State of Texas Class C drivers license.
Education
- High school diploma or GED.
Preferences
- Certification in advanced pool systems such as UV system repair.
- College degree.
Supplemental Information
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Knowledge of supervisory practices for aquatics facilities and operations.
- Knowledge and understanding of state and local codes and health standards related to aquatic facilities such as swimming pools, waterparks, aquatic centers, spraygrounds, and public interactive water features.
- Knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment involved in the operation and maintenance of aquatic facilities.
- Knowledge of standard safety practices for working around heavy mechanical equipment and hazardous materials such as chlorine and muriatic acid.
- Knowledge of computer systems, telephone and radio equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Ability to plan, assign, train, direct and evaluate the work of subordinate staff.
- Ability to read various operational manuals, schematic diagrams and blue prints.
- Ability to use and instruct in the use of water chemistry testing devices.
- Ability to understand technical terminology of aquatic facility operations.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with all levels of management, city officials, vendors, other employees, and the citizens of Dallas.
- Ability to maintain record keeping or work order systems and develop and implement methods to improve productivity and effectiveness.
- Ability to make good sound professional judgment decisions and act accordingly.
- Ability to track, record and submit employee hours for payroll purposes.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work in office and in the field.
- Work may require considerable standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, walking, lifting, climbing, reaching and working in cramped positions and cramped locations.
- May be subject to toxic fumes, odors, dust, insect bites, or mechanical, electrical, chemical, and explosive hazards.
- May frequently be subjected to dangerous chemicals, power equipment, dirt, solvents and fuel.
- May be exposed to inclement weather, traffic hazards, and falling.
- May be required to work after hours and on the weekends.
- May be on call 24 hours a day.
